Sample interview questions
I have over five years of experience working in data centers, where I managed the operation and maintenance of UPS systems, switchgear, generators, and PDUs. I routinely perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot faults, and coordinate with vendors for major repairs. In one incident, I diagnosed a failing breaker and successfully isolated the fault without impacting live loads, preventing a potential outage.
During an emergency, my first priority is always life safety, followed by protecting critical loads and minimizing downtime. For example, when we had a coolant leak, I immediately alerted the control room, isolated the affected loop, and coordinated with the HVAC team to reroute cooling while ensuring no temperature spikes occurred. I documented all actions per emergency operating procedures.
I have used CMMS platforms like Maximo and Maintenance Connection to track work orders, schedule preventive maintenance, and document asset history. I prioritize work orders based on criticality and deadline, and I always update the system with detailed notes and completion times. I also use the system to generate reports and identify recurring failures for proactive improvements.
I regularly participate in webinars and online courses on AI applications in critical infrastructure. I have implemented an AI-based anomaly detection tool that monitors sensor data to predict equipment failures before they happen. Additionally, I use prompt engineering techniques to leverage AI assistants for faster root cause analysis and documenting standard operating procedures.
I once supervised a contractor replacing a chiller. I reviewed their method statement, conducted a pre-job safety briefing, and verified their permits and certifications. During the installation, I monitored their work against blueprints and company standards, and I stopped the job when I noticed improper torque on electrical connections, which was then corrected. The project was completed on time and passed all inspections.
