Cover letter sample

Dear Hiring Team,

I am excited to apply for the Remote AMC Tutor position with Think Academy. With a strong foundation in competition mathematics and experience explaining challenging concepts clearly, I can help students build effective problem-solving strategies across algebra, geometry, number theory, counting, and probability.

I would bring an engaging, student-centered online teaching style, timely feedback, and a commitment to helping learners gain confidence for AMC 8 and AMC 10 competitions. I am prepared to support evening and weekend instruction while delivering thoughtful, individualized lessons in English.

Thank you for your consideration; I would welcome the opportunity to contribute to Think Academy's competition math program.

Sample interview questions
How would you create an individualized AMC preparation plan for a new student?

I begin by identifying the student's current strengths, gaps, and contest goals through diagnostic problems and discussion. I then create a focused plan covering core topics, problem-solving heuristics, timed practice, and regular review of mistakes.

How do you help a student who is stuck on a difficult competition math problem?

I guide the student to restate the problem, identify known information, and test manageable cases or diagrams before giving hints. I emphasize recognizing patterns and selecting strategies so the student develops independence rather than memorizing a solution.

What methods do you use to keep one-on-one online math lessons engaging?

I use a digital whiteboard, verbal questioning, and short interactive checkpoints throughout the lesson. I also ask students to explain their reasoning and provide targeted follow-up practice after each session.

How would you prepare a student for the time-management demands of the AMC?

I teach students to triage questions, secure easier points first, monitor time, and use strategic guessing only when appropriate. Timed practice sets followed by error analysis help them improve both pace and accuracy.

How do you provide constructive feedback to students after practice tests or lessons?

I provide prompt, specific feedback that identifies what was done well, where reasoning broke down, and what concrete next step will improve performance. I frame errors as useful evidence for adjusting the learning plan and building confidence.
