Cover letter sample

Dear Hiring Team,

I am excited to apply for the Senior Product Manager, Customer Insights role at Mural. My product management background includes building analytics and data-driven experiences that convert complex usage data into clear, actionable outcomes for enterprise customers and internal revenue teams.

I would bring strong partnership across engineering, data, design, Sales, and Customer Success to define a scalable insights strategy, improve the underlying data foundation, and deliver AI-enabled workflows with measurable customer value.

I am particularly drawn to the opportunity to shape an enterprise-grade insights surface spanning reporting, auditability, APIs, and proactive analytics. I would welcome the chance to help Mural strengthen renewal and expansion narratives for its largest customers.

Sample interview questions
How would you define a usage-data foundation that supports renewal and expansion narratives?

I would begin by aligning Sales, Customer Success, Finance, and enterprise customers on the decisions the product must support, such as adoption risk, renewal readiness, and expansion opportunity. I would then define a trusted metric hierarchy, document metric definitions and data lineage, and prioritize instrumentation gaps before building reporting surfaces. Finally, I would validate whether the insights change customer actions and commercial outcomes, not just dashboard engagement.

What would your first AI-native insights capability look like?

I would identify the highest-value user jobs, such as explaining adoption changes, finding inactive teams, or preparing an executive business review. I would start with constrained, evidence-linked natural-language queries and proactive alerts rather than a broad chatbot. Each capability would include permissions-aware retrieval, clear source data, evaluation criteria for accuracy, and feedback loops to improve trust.

How do you turn an ambiguous enterprise customer request into a product decision?

I would use customer interviews, support signals, and product telemetry to understand the workflow behind the request, the affected personas, and the business risk of inaction. I would frame the problem with a measurable outcome, map solution options, and use a lightweight prototype or data analysis to test assumptions. I would communicate tradeoffs explicitly and make a recommendation tied to strategy and evidence.

How would you make customer-facing audit logs enterprise ready?

I would treat audit logs as a governed product surface with clear event coverage, consistent schemas, retention expectations, search and export needs, and role-based access controls. I would partner early with security, legal, and engineering to identify compliance requirements and validate performance at enterprise scale. I would also ensure that customers can understand event meaning and investigate activity without relying on Mural support.

How would you partner with Sales and Customer Success without turning the product roadmap into a list of one-off requests?

I would establish a shared operating cadence with Sales and Customer Success around the customer lifecycle, including discovery, adoption reviews, renewal preparation, and expansion planning. Product would provide interpretable signals and recommended narratives, while revenue teams would validate whether those signals are credible and actionable in customer conversations. I would measure impact through adoption of the insights surface, reduced time to prepare account reviews, retention indicators, and expansion influence.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Mural’s Admin & Security portfolio owns the experiences that let organizations adopt, govern, and measure the value of Mural at enterprise scale. The portfolio spans three domains: Admin & Identity Management, Enterprise Security, & Customer Insights. This role leads Customer Insights and supercharges it into a surface that turns Mural’s product data into the narratives that drive renewals, fund expansion, and prove the ROI of collaboration to Admins and buyers.

YOUR MISSION

Own the Customer Insights product area end-to-end. Build the user facing experiences and the data foundation to turn raw data into shared, clear, and actionable narratives. Define Mural’s POV on what AI-native insights look like as the category shifts from static dashboards to proactive, conversational, agentic interfaces.

You’ll work across three layers in parallel:

  • The canonical usage data layer: This is the foundation that powers Company Insights today and needs to be deliberately built and enriched so other surfaces such as engagement, growth, AI, can consume it tomorrow.

  • The customer-facing surface: This is how the data is presented in-product, whether it’s on an insights page, a dashboard, scheduled and ad hoc reporting, audit logs, or APIs that can be consumed by Admins, end users, execs, and Mural teams.

  • The AI-native expansion: How Mural incorporates natural language queries, agentic workflows, and proactive analytics to evolve and extend the insights surface.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Own product strategy, roadmap, and execution for Customer Insights from data model through customer-facing experience

  • Define the usage data layer in partnership with Engineering and Data including the metrics that anchor renewal and expansion narratives

  • Evolve customer-accessible audit logs to be enterprise ready

  • Define Mural’s POV on AI-native insights and ship the first set of AI-powered capabilities on this surface

  • Partner with Sales and Customer Success to translate insights into the narratives that win renewals and unlock expansion

  • Engage directly with enterprise Admins, IT, and Security stakeholders to validate priorities and stress-test the roadmap

  • Co-own the seams with Admin & IAM and Enterprise Security PMs so the insights surface composes cleanly with permissions, access controls, and compliance posture

  • Translate ambiguous business questions into clear product surfaces

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • 4+ years of product management experience, with at least 2 building analytics, reporting, or data products for a business or admin audience

  • Strong data fluency from shaping data models, instrumentation strategy, and can hold your own with engineers on freshness, granularity, aggregation, and pipeline tradeoffs

  • AI product sense from using AI tools regularly, and can hold a real point of view on what AI-native data products look like

  • A track record of turning ambiguous business questions into clear product surfaces

  • Experience partnering with Sales and Customer Success on renewal and expansion narratives

  • Excellent communication across data, design, engineering, and revenue-facing stakeholders

Bonus

  • Experience with enterprise admin or governance products (IAM, security, compliance, audit)

  • Background in BI, analytics platforms, or data products

  • Experience designing customer-facing APIs for analytics and reporting

Why You’ll Love Mural

Customer Insights sits at the intersection of three valuable surfaces – and the surface you’ll own directly drives the conversations that grow Mural’s largest accounts. Not only that, but you will also set the strategic ambition for the analytics surface itself – defining where insights extends across Mural as a product over time.
