Dear Hiring Team,
I am excited to apply for the Category Manager – Health & Wellness, Lifestyle role at Gopuff. With experience owning CPG category performance, assortment strategy, pricing, and supplier relationships, I can help build compelling selections that improve sales, availability, and margin.
I bring a data-driven approach to category planning, using customer insights, competitive pricing, and operational performance to make practical decisions across markets. I would welcome the opportunity to partner with Supply Chain, distributors, suppliers, and digital merchandising teams to deliver a strong customer experience in Gopuff’s fast-paced environment.
Thank you for your consideration; I look forward to discussing how my merchandising and commercial expertise can support Team Blue.
Sample interview questions
I would start with category sales, gross margin, unit velocity, in-stock rate, assortment penetration, and price competitiveness. I would segment results by market, customer behavior, and product class, then identify whether the opportunity is assortment rationalization, price adjustment, promotional support, or supply improvement. I would test changes in priority markets and scale actions that improve both customer value and contribution margin.
I use a structured scorecard that considers sales velocity, margin, consumer demand, differentiation, supply reliability, minimum order requirements, and strategic relevance. I combine syndicated and internal customer data with competitive research to validate the opportunity. For new items, I set success metrics and review periods so decisions to expand, adjust, or discontinue are evidence-based.
I would establish regular business reviews with clear scorecards covering fill rate, lead times, inventory health, pricing, promotions, and issue resolution. I focus negotiations on mutual value, such as assortment expansion, promotional funding, better terms, or improved service levels. When supply risk emerges, I communicate early, assess alternatives, and prioritize customer-critical items.
I evaluate competitive price indexes, elasticity, unit economics, customer value perception, and category margin targets before making a recommendation. Rather than applying broad changes, I distinguish known-value items from less price-sensitive products and consider market-level differences. I monitor results after implementation and adjust quickly if volume or margin performance does not meet expectations.
In a prior category-management situation, I would align stakeholders around a concise decision document: the customer problem, data, financial impact, operational constraints, options, and recommended action. I would identify the decision owner, set a deadline, and make trade-offs explicit. This keeps teams moving quickly while ensuring Supply Chain, Legal, suppliers, and merchandising partners understand their responsibilities.
