About this role.
Builder.io is seeking an Enterprise Sales Engineer to lead technical pre-sales engagements for its AI-powered development platform. The role partners with Account Executives and enterprise engineering stakeholders to conduct discovery, demonstrations, workshops, and hands-on proof-of-value initiatives. Success requires technical credibility across AI development workflows, APIs, JavaScript, React, JSON, security, and enterprise software evaluation. This is an early-stage, customer-facing role that also feeds field insights back to Product and Engineering. The position is remote for candidates in the United States or Canada, with up to 25% travel.

Sample interview questions
I begin by aligning the customer and internal account team on a documented business problem, technical scope, stakeholders, timeline, and measurable success criteria. During the POV, I run regular checkpoints, resolve blockers quickly, and capture evidence against the agreed criteria. I close with an executive readout that connects technical results to business value and defines the recommended production path.
For a CTO, I would focus on delivery speed, governance, quality, adoption risk, and measurable business impact. For engineers, I would demonstrate how the platform works with their real codebase, design system, APIs, and development workflow. In both cases, I would validate claims through a practical use case rather than relying only on presentation material.
I first clarify the customer’s requirements, decision process, and risk concerns, then provide accurate approved materials and involve security specialists when deeper expertise is needed. I avoid making unsupported commitments and maintain a clear tracker of open questions, owners, and due dates. This approach keeps momentum while building trust with security stakeholders.
I map the current development lifecycle, team structure, tooling, integration points, bottlenecks, and desired outcomes. I ask targeted questions about code ownership, deployment processes, governance, security requirements, and how success will be measured. I then tailor the demo and POV to the highest-value workflow rather than offering a generic product walkthrough.
I would capture recurring requests and objections with the customer context, affected personas, frequency, revenue impact, and supporting examples. I would distinguish between isolated feature requests and repeatable product gaps, then share concise findings through established feedback channels. I would also close the loop with sales and customers when product decisions or workarounds are available.
Builder.io is looking to add an accomplished Sales Engineer to our team to help enterprises unlock the full value of AI-powered development. Builder.io is redefining how engineering teams build — giving developers and non-developers alike the ability to create, iterate, and ship production-ready applications through AI. You will partner with Account Executives to engage with engineering leaders, architects, and developers in a consultative sales process: understanding their technical environment, demonstrating tangible business value, running hands-on proof of value engagements, and closing business.
As an Enterprise Sales Engineer at Builder.io, you will…
- Build trusted relationships with engineering leaders, CTOs, and developer teams — serving as their trusted technical advisor throughout the evaluation and purchasing process
- Lead technical discovery, deliver compelling product demonstrations, and guide prospects through hands-on proof of value engagements inside their real development environments
- Advise customers on how to integrate AI-powered development into their development workflows — identifying the highest-value use cases, recommending adoption patterns, and helping cross-departmental teams understand how Builder.io can change the way they build
- Develop and deliver technical presentations, whiteboarding sessions, and workshops tailored to both business stakeholders and highly technical audiences
- Serve as the first line of defense for security and compliance questions, guiding customers to relevant resources and escalating complex requirements to the appropriate teams
- Create and maintain internal documentation, demo guides, and enablement resources that capture common customer requirements and accelerate the team’s ability to execute
- Act as the internal voice of the customer — gathering feedback from the field, identifying common themes across enterprise accounts, and partnering with Product and Engineering to continuously improve the Builder.io platform and messaging
- As an early-stage hire, bring creativity and a spirit of experimentation to all that you do — we have a working playbook and we want you to help make it better
You will thrive in this role if you have…
- 5+ years of experience in a technical pre-sales role (Sales Engineer, Solutions Architect, Solutions Consultant, or similar)
- At least 3+ years selling to Enterprise customers and managing senior technical and business relationships
- Hands-on fluency with AI tooling and the modern software development lifecycle — you don’t need to be a full-time engineer, but you should be comfortable working in technical environments, understanding developer workflows, and advising on AI adoption strategies
- Experience building with or selling developer tools, AI-powered coding platforms, or technical platform products to engineering organizations
- Proficiency with modern development methodologies and frameworks (APIs, JavaScript, React, JSON) and the ability to build working prototypes or demos to validate use cases
- Strong executive presence — equally comfortable coding alongside developers as you are presenting to a CTO or VP of Engineering
- A track record of running structured POV processes: establishing clear goals and success criteria, working hands-on inside customer environments, and driving toward measurable outcomes
- Foundational understanding of IT security principles and experience supporting enterprise security and compliance requirements in a pre-sales context
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to distill complex technical concepts for any audience
- Previous experience in a startup or fast-paced environment
- Able to travel up to 25%
The items above are a starting point for a conversation, not a hard list of requirements. If this role excites you, we hope you will apply!
The total compensation range for this role is $220,000 – $260,000 USD, including base salary and target variable pay. This role is also eligible for a meaningful equity grant and comprehensive benefits.
Builder is a fully remote company and hires across multiple locations. Compensation may vary based on location and will be discussed early in the hiring process.
