Sample interview questions
How would you design an HR-driven identity lifecycle process for a SaaS-heavy organization?

I would establish the HRIS as the authoritative source for worker status and core attributes, then map those attributes to identity groups, roles, and application entitlements. Using SCIM and workflow automation, I would automate joiner, mover, and leaver events with approval controls, logging, exception handling, and periodic reconciliation against the identity provider and application inventory.

Describe how you would implement least-privilege access for systems handling PHI.

I would begin with a data and application inventory, identify PHI access paths, and define role-based access models tied to job functions. I would enforce SSO and MFA, use group-based provisioning, require privileged-access controls, review OAuth grants, maintain audit logs, and conduct recurring access certifications with system owners.

What approach would you take to improve endpoint management using a platform such as NinjaOne?

I would first assess device inventory, operating-system coverage, patch compliance, configuration drift, and current policy exceptions. I would then standardize baseline configurations, automate enrollment and software deployment, establish patch and vulnerability remediation SLAs, and create reporting that makes compliance and exceptions visible to IT and Security stakeholders.

How do you prioritize competing requests from IT, Engineering, HR, and Security?

I prioritize based on security and compliance risk, business impact, user reach, operational urgency, and implementation effort. I make tradeoffs explicit, align stakeholders on the desired outcome and constraints, and sequence work so that foundational automation and control improvements reduce recurring manual work over time.

Give an example of how infrastructure as code can improve internal IT operations.

Infrastructure as code enables repeatable, reviewable configuration for identity groups, SaaS settings, endpoint policies, and access controls. I would store configurations in version control, use peer review and automated validation, and deploy through controlled workflows so changes are auditable, reversible, and consistent across environments.

About the Role

We’re looking for a senior IT engineer to own Qventus’ IT infrastructure. This role will be responsible for integrating IT, Engineering, and HR systems; keeping our IAM group design coherent; and working cross-team to streamline IT processes by building a strong foundation for automation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engineer and integrate IT systems so that they “just work”
  • Automate the manual IT work so that provisioning is repeatable, access is right-sized, and lifecycle runs itself
  • Know what we run and who can reach it, and keep that picture authoritative as the company changes
  • Own our endpoint management system and policy implementation
  • Partner with Security and DevOps so the foundation is a source of leverage others build on

What We’re Looking For

  • Demonstrated ability to drive complex, ambiguous projects forward independently, set priorities across disparate systems, and communicate tradeoffs clearly
  • Deep experience with identity and access management in SaaS-heavy environments, including SCIM provisioning and HR-driven lifecycle automation
  • Expertise in owning systems that handle PHI, in a HIPAA-regulated or similarly regulated environment
  • Hands-on endpoint management engineering experience with tools like NinjaOne
  • Comfort treating infrastructure as code and building maintainable tooling in a language like Python or Go
  • Experience with SaaS administration, OAuth-grant and access governance, and maintaining an authoritative application inventory
