Sample interview questions
I would first establish the scope, timing, query pattern, data-volume changes, and business impact. I would review query logs, execution details, table schema, partitioning, sorting keys, resource utilization, and recent configuration or workload changes. I would then reproduce or isolate the issue where possible, recommend a targeted remediation, and communicate clear findings and next steps to the customer.
I acknowledge the issue quickly, confirm severity and impact, and set an initial communication cadence. I gather the minimum critical diagnostic information, engage the appropriate internal specialists early, and provide transparent updates even when the root cause is still under investigation. I avoid unsupported conclusions while ensuring the customer has practical mitigation steps whenever possible.
I have supported systems where performance, availability, and data consistency depend on multiple services and nodes. My approach includes understanding architecture, examining logs and metrics across layers, validating network and storage dependencies, and explaining tradeoffs clearly to customers. I am comfortable learning product-specific internals quickly and applying that knowledge to production incidents and design guidance.
I would begin by clarifying their workload, success criteria, data model, ingestion patterns, expected concurrency, and performance targets. I would help design representative tests, recommend appropriate schema and operational practices, and identify risks or limitations early. Throughout the POC, I would document results and collaborate with sales and engineering partners to ensure the customer receives accurate technical guidance.
After resolving recurring or high-value issues, I turn the learning into reusable documentation, knowledge-base articles, troubleshooting playbooks, or training sessions. I also share product gaps and customer feedback with Engineering and Product teams, using evidence from cases to help prioritize improvements. This reduces repeat incidents and improves both customer self-service and team effectiveness.
