Core skills

Sample interview questions
Describe an end-to-end lifecycle email campaign you owned and how you measured its success.

I would explain the business objective, target audience, journey design, messaging approach, build and QA process, launch plan, and results. I would cite metrics such as conversion rate, incremental revenue, retention, click-through rate, unsubscribe rate, and deliverability, then describe the optimization actions taken.

How do you use SQL in a marketing automation environment?

I use SQL to create and validate audience segments, join customer and behavioral data, identify exclusions and suppressions, check record counts, and prepare measurement-ready datasets. Before deployment, I validate logic with sample records and reconcile totals against source data to reduce targeting errors.

How would you improve an underperforming lifecycle email program?

I would first diagnose performance by audience, trigger, device, deliverability, creative, and funnel stage. I would prioritize hypotheses such as improving segmentation, timing, offer relevance, message hierarchy, or landing-page alignment, then run controlled tests and scale only improvements with meaningful results.

How do you balance creative quality with operational speed and accuracy?

I establish a clear brief, decision owners, milestones, and a documented QA checklist early in the process. I use reusable templates and preflight reviews for links, rendering, personalization, data logic, suppression rules, and tracking so the team can move quickly without compromising customer experience.

How do you work with Product, Analytics, Design, and Engineering stakeholders?

I align partners around the customer problem, desired behavior, success metrics, responsibilities, and launch timeline. I communicate concise briefs and regular status updates, use data to resolve tradeoffs, and share post-launch insights so each team understands both the result and the next experiment.
