Sample interview questions
Describe a data product you took from an internal capability to an externally monetized offering.

I would explain the customer problem, the proprietary signals or data assets involved, the packaging and pricing model, and the go-to-market plan. I would quantify outcomes such as pilot conversion, CPM premium, revenue, renewal rate, or expansion and describe how I operationalized delivery with product, data, legal, and sales teams.

How would you build a revenue plan for a net-new ad format with no direct market analog?

I would start with the buyer use case, addressable demand, inventory assumptions, and measurable differentiation. I would construct a revenue bridge using pricing, sell-through, adoption timing, pilot conversion, and account-level pipeline assumptions, then set stage gates to validate each assumption before scaling.

How do you translate first-party intent signals into a defensible CPM premium?

I would establish the signal's uniqueness, audience quality, activation method, and measurable incremental value versus standard targeting. I would use test-and-control results, lift studies, conversion performance, and buyer feedback to create evidence-based pricing tiers and a clear measurement narrative.

What is your approach to managing strategic ad-tech and data partnerships?

I segment partners by commercial impact, strategic leverage, technical complexity, and time to value. For priority partners, I define joint objectives, economics, integration requirements, governance, success metrics, and executive communication cadences so the relationship produces measurable revenue rather than remaining exploratory.

How would you influence sales, product, and marketing teams to adopt a new commercial model?

I would build alignment around a shared customer problem and a quantified revenue opportunity, then provide practical enablement such as positioning, pricing guidance, pilot criteria, case studies, and operating processes. Early wins and transparent feedback loops are essential for refining the model and creating internal advocates.

About this Role

Fandom aspires to become the highest-intent advertising platform in entertainment and gaming: unmatched community depth × retail media’s intent model × the IP-specific vertical no one else owns.

The Director Revenue Strategy & Commercial Innovations reports to the VP Programmatic Revenue & Partnerships and will manage a small team. The role develops and executes the commercial strategy and manages the revenue plans for new initiatives pertaining to the next chapter of Fandom.

This is equal parts strategist, builder, and operator. The right person has shipped something. A format, a data product, a partnership, and can point to revenue that exists in the market because of their contribution. This is not a planning role. It is a building role with a number attached.

The role requires a seasoned ad tech operator who has built and scaled the operational foundation that turns inventory into revenue through data collaboration and extending the activation layer of Fandom’s data beyond Fandom’s own wall. You have lived inside the ad server, the SSP, the DSP integrations, and the measurement stack, and you know that revenue at scale is unlocked by clean infrastructure, disciplined process, and tight cross-functional coordination. You have done this work before, and you are excited to bring that experience to Fandom.

You Will…

Revenue Plan & Target Ownership

  • Operationalize the financial architecture for net-new revenue initiatives: RPU expansion model by product line, assumptions, timeline, and revenue bridge to company targets
  • Define and track progress against quarterly and annual milestones. Be accountable for the number, not just the strategy behind it
  • Serve as the internal point of view on where incremental revenue comes from and what it requires to unlock

Ad Product & Format Commercialization

  • Operationalize the commercial requirements and revenue case for Fandom’s next-generation ad formats, translate market demand, advertiser feedback, and competitive positioning into product priorities for the platform team
  • Ability to bring custom offering to market by defining, packaging, pricing, and go-to-market sequencing for new formats as they come to market. This includes net-new formats with no existing analog, where Fandom’s IP-specific depth and lifecycle targeting (announcement → trailer → theatrical → streaming) create opportunities scaled platforms cannot replicate
  • Serve as commercial lead on initial format pilots, the product owner in client conversations, not the seller, and own the path from first deal to repeatable offering
  • Provide B2B marketing with the commercial inputs needed to build the sales narrative: proof points, pricing rationale, measurement story, competitive positioning

Data Strategy & Monetization

  • Operationalize the external revenue strategy for Fandom’s data assets. For example, how FanDNA Helix, intent signals, and IP health data get packaged, priced, and sold to brand and studio buyers.
  • Define deal structure, buyer prioritization, and commercial terms; own the revenue outcome against those partnerships.
  • Translate data signals into CPM premium and quantify the value of Helix enrichment in advertiser conversations and build it into format pricing

Strategic Partnerships & Market Development

  • Manage the partner ecosystem that accelerates Fandom’s commercial position through data partnerships, distribution integrations, platform relationships, and IP-owner alliances
  • Execute a tiered partnership strategy: core commercial partnerships, innovation partnerships (across identity, commerce, AI), and market expansion relationships
  • Identify and evaluate strategic opportunities including but not limited to licensing and platform integrations that expand Fandom’s revenue surface into new areas
  • Serve as primary point of contact for key partnerships across the ecosystem

Non-Endemic & Category Expansion

  • Translate Fandom’s high-intent fan audience story into new, interesting, buyable products for non-endemic categories such as QSR, CPG, Auto, Tech at the agency investment level
  • Provide guidance on audience segments and rationale behind measurement proof points that resonate with buyers.

You Have…

  • 10+ years in revenue strategy, ad products, or commercial partnerships at a digital media, ad tech, or streaming platform
  • Have managed a team for 4+ years, managing a team of at least 1 person.
  • Experience taking a first-party data asset from internal capability to externally monetized product. Ideate, create, launched it, priced it, and closed deals against it
  • Be a subject matter expert for newly created data-led ad products across ad products, data, commerce, or performance by shipping a go-to-market strategy alongside marketing that resonates with market requirements.
  • Publisher or platform partnership experience understanding both sides of the inventory and data equation
  • Comfortable working with complex financial models; can manage and present regional/functional performance targets to senior leadership.
  • An ability to walk into a holding companies investment meeting to present and close
  • A thirst to build as an individual contributor
  • An operational orientation at the intersection of strategy and execution; the plan and the result are both yours
  • Analytically rigorousness to own the model
  • Comfort with ambiguity as this is an entirely new marketing channel with no existing playbook; that is the opportunity

Bonus Points…

  • Workflow Automation: Experience leveraging modern workflow automation tools (ie: Claude Code, Google Gemini, etc) to streamline commercial operations and accelerate go-to-market speed.
  • Commercial Evangelism & Change Management: Demonstrated ability to act as a commercial change agent, inspiring sales and operations teams to adopt innovative revenue models.
  • Data Fluency & Deep Analysis: Hands-on fluency with BI tools (e.g., SQL, Looker, Tableau) to independently analyze data and rapidly validate revenue hypotheses.

Benefits & Perks

  • Salary Range = 165k – 185k USD – (Actual salary available will vary based on location and market factors.)
  • Vibrant team culture
  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, Vision
  • Training (unlimited Udemy + more)
  • Flexible working hours and time off
  • Equity & Retirement Programs including 401K match
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • International work environment with start-up culture
