Sample interview questions
I first identify the provisions that create material legal, financial, security, or operational exposure. I explain the risk in practical business terms, offer approved fallback language where possible, and escalate only issues that exceed defined risk thresholds so the deal can keep moving.
I assess the data involved, each party's role, applicable privacy requirements, security commitments, and the operational feasibility of the requested terms. I work closely with privacy and security stakeholders to provide an accurate position and seek language that is protective, commercially reasonable, and aligned with the company's actual practices.
I would review contract-cycle data and collect feedback from Sales, Deal Desk, and Legal to locate recurring delays and negotiation points. I would then improve templates and clause libraries, define clear fallback positions and approval workflows, create self-service resources for low-risk requests, and measure the impact on turnaround time and exceptions.
I avoid legal jargon and focus on the business impact, available options, and recommended path. For example, I would explain that a proposed liability obligation could expose the company to losses disproportionate to contract value, then provide a concise alternative that protects both the customer relationship and the business.
I would triage matters by revenue impact, deadline, risk level, and strategic importance, while setting transparent expectations with stakeholders. I would use standardized playbooks for routine matters, reserve focused time for complex negotiations, and communicate early when a decision or escalation is needed to prevent bottlenecks.
