Sample interview questions
How would you build a pricing model for a time-and-materials federal contract?

I would first map the solicitation requirements to labor categories, periods of performance, escalation assumptions, indirect rates, fee, travel, and other direct costs. I would validate rate inputs against internal compensation data, subcontractor quotes, and contractual constraints, then create traceable calculations and checks that tie to the pricing volume and basis of estimate.

How do you perform a cost realism or reasonableness review?

I compare proposed inputs with historical actuals, market benchmarks, independent estimates, and solicitation requirements. I investigate material variances, document the rationale for accepted assumptions, identify risks or gaps, and ensure the final conclusion is supported by a clear audit trail.

Describe your approach to analyzing an RFP for pricing requirements.

I create a compliance matrix covering contract type, pricing schedule, labor categories, deliverables, evaluation criteria, assumptions, and required narratives or certifications. I flag ambiguities early, coordinate questions with capture and operations teams, and maintain version control so the model and final submission remain aligned with solicitation amendments.

How would you support a Price to Win analysis when competitor data is limited?

I would combine available incumbent and public-award information with labor-market data, customer budget signals, internal historical bids, and scenario analysis. I would present a range of competitive positions, identify tradeoffs between margin and win probability, and clearly distinguish evidence-based assumptions from uncertainties.

What controls do you use to ensure a pricing submission is accurate and compliant?

I use standardized templates, source documentation for every key input, formula and cross-foot checks, peer reviews, and a final compliance review against the solicitation. I also reconcile pricing tables, narratives, and BOE documentation so that rates, assumptions, totals, and terminology are consistent throughout the submission.
