Sample interview questions
Describe a complex B2B workflow you owned from discovery through launch. How did you handle ambiguity?

I began by aligning stakeholders on the customer problem, business outcome, constraints, and key unknowns. I combined user research, workflow mapping, and rapid prototypes to make assumptions visible, then used frequent reviews and usability feedback to converge on a scalable solution. After launch, I monitored adoption and qualitative feedback to prioritize iterative improvements.

How do you balance rapid product delivery with design quality and consistency?

I identify the decisions that are expensive to reverse, such as interaction patterns, information architecture, and accessibility, and invest appropriate effort there. For lower-risk details, I use prototypes, reusable design-system components, and incremental releases to learn quickly. I make tradeoffs explicit with Product and Engineering so speed does not create unmanageable design debt.

What is your approach to designing AI-assisted experiences for professional users?

I start with the user's existing workflow and identify where AI can reduce repetitive work, improve synthesis, or offer useful guidance without removing appropriate human control. I design clear inputs, explainable outputs, confidence cues, review states, and easy correction paths. I validate that the experience improves speed and quality while preserving user trust and accountability.

How have you influenced a product roadmap while partnering with Product and Engineering?

I bring evidence from customer research, workflow analysis, usability findings, and technical feasibility discussions into planning conversations. Rather than presenting design as a downstream execution step, I frame opportunities in terms of customer impact, risk, and measurable outcomes. This helps the team prioritize foundational improvements alongside near-term feature delivery.

How do you mentor peers and contribute to a stronger design culture?

I provide specific, actionable critique tied to user needs, product goals, and design principles rather than personal preference. I share process artifacts, facilitate collaborative reviews, and create space for designers to explain their reasoning. I also contribute reusable patterns and documentation that raise consistency and make the team faster over time.

About the Role

We’re hiring a Senior Product Designer to join our Audit product team. Reporting to the Director, Product Design, you’ll own complex, ambiguous problem spaces end-to-end, partner deeply with Product and Engineering and help shape the design direction of a core Fieldguide product.

We move incredibly fast at Fieldguide and are looking for designers who can operate at that cadence. This team ships frequently, iterates in tight loops and makes progress amid ambiguity. The hire should be comfortable balancing speed with craft, incorporating AI into their daily design practice, and designing AI-assisted workflows directly into the product. This is a high-impact role for someone excited to own unclear problems, drive momentum and help modernize audit workflows that customers depend on every day.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead end-to-end design for complex, ambiguous audit workflows, from problem definition through shipped solutions

  • Partner closely with Product and Engineering to shape strategy, influence roadmaps, and deliver high-quality, scalable implementations

  • Drive design execution with minimal direction, operating effectively in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment

  • Translate customer needs, research insights, and business goals into clear user journeys, interaction models, and polished UI

  • Balance speed and iteration with usability, consistency, and long-term product quality

  • Advocate for users while accounting for technical, regulatory, and business constraints

  • Own a significant product area or customer journey, anticipating downstream impacts across workflows and personas

  • Set a high bar for craft and influence by contributing to the design system, mentoring peers, and serving as a trusted design voice.

Who You Are:

  • 6+ year of experience in a Product Design role, ideally focused on complex, B2B SaaS products

  • Previously thrived in fast-moving environments and can operate effectively at high velocity without sacrificing judgment or craft

  • Have owned complex, ambiguous problem spaces end-to-end with minimal direction

  • An ability to think in systems and anticipate downstream impacts across workflows, personas, and adjacent product areas

  • Experience working alongside or designing AI-assisted workflows (e.g., review, summarization, guidance)

  • Have incorporated AI into your daily design practice — from research and synthesis to prototyping and iteration

  • Excited to design AI-assisted workflows that meaningfully support auditors in their work

  • Proven ability for usability, polish, and consistency in shipped work

  • You’ve proven to elevate previous teams through mentorship, feedback, and thoughtful critique
