The role combines manual testing, defect documentation, test planning, test automation, API testing, and CI/CD test integration. Sample interview questions
I would first review requirements, user roles, workflow diagrams, and patient-safety risks. I would create traceable test scenarios covering normal, boundary, failure, permission, and integration paths; execute them across relevant environments; document defects with clear reproduction steps and evidence; and confirm regression coverage before release.
I would select tests appropriate for fast, repeatable execution, such as API, smoke, and critical regression tests. I would configure them to run on pull requests and deployment stages, publish readable reports and logs, use stable test data and environment controls, and work with developers to define failure thresholds and triage ownership.
An effective defect report has a concise title, environment details, prerequisites, reproducible steps, actual and expected results, severity or impact, and supporting screenshots, logs, request payloads, or videos when applicable. It should explain the user or business impact without assuming the implementation fix.
I prioritize automation for stable, repeatable, high-volume, high-risk regression scenarios and API checks that provide rapid feedback. I retain manual testing for exploratory work, usability observations, newly changing features, and scenarios that require human judgment or are not yet stable enough to justify automation maintenance.
I would ensure test coverage includes access controls, authentication, authorization, audit behavior, secure handling of protected health information, and appropriate session or data-retention behavior. I would also use approved test data practices, avoid exposing PHI in logs or defect artifacts, and raise security or privacy risks promptly through established processes.

Qualifications
Required
- 2–4 years of professional QA engineering experience.
- Hands-on experience executing test cases and documenting defects clearly.
- Experience with test automation, API testing, and CI/CD integration.
- Understanding of QA methodologies and quality metrics.
- Clear written and verbal communication, with a willingness to learn and act on feedback.
Preferred
- Experience testing in a HIPAA/HITRUST-regulated healthcare environment.
- Performance and security testing experience.
- Experience building test frameworks from the ground up.
