Sample interview questions
I start with workload isolation, autoscaling, resilient multi-AZ node capacity, secure RBAC, and clear resource requests and limits. I pair this with cluster and application-level observability, tested deployment and rollback processes, and regular capacity reviews so reliability is engineered proactively rather than addressed only during incidents.
I would create reusable, versioned infrastructure modules with peer-reviewed changes, automated plans, policy checks, and controlled applies. Remote state, environment separation, least-privilege credentials, and drift detection are important so teams can make predictable changes while retaining an auditable infrastructure history.
I would monitor node synchronization and block-height lag, peer connectivity, RPC error and latency rates, disk growth and IOPS, CPU and memory pressure, database health, and end-to-end transaction or data availability. Alerts should focus on user-impacting symptoms and include runbooks that help responders quickly distinguish upstream chain issues from internal infrastructure failures.
I would first profile access patterns, query costs, storage growth, and retention needs. From there, I would use partitioning, indexing, read replicas or specialized stores where appropriate, lifecycle policies for older data, and capacity forecasting, while validating each change through load testing and carefully measured production rollout.
I would communicate impact and ownership early, establish a clear incident channel and incident commander, stabilize the system with the lowest-risk mitigation, and provide regular stakeholder updates. After recovery, I would lead a blameless review that identifies technical and process causes, assigns durable follow-up actions, and validates that the corrective measures reduce recurrence risk.
