Sample interview questions
I use documented validation steps, reconcile eligibility and deduction files against HRIS records, and investigate exceptions before each payroll deadline. I also maintain audit logs and recurring quality checks so data issues can be identified and corrected quickly.
I would first confirm the employee's eligibility and applicable policy requirements, then coordinate promptly with the employee, payroll team, insurer, and relevant internal partners. I would document each action, protect confidential information, track deadlines, and provide clear status updates until the case is resolved.
I compare vendor billing to current eligibility, enrollment, and rate data, then investigate discrepancies such as terminated employees, missing dependents, or incorrect coverage tiers. After resolving variances with the vendor and internal stakeholders, I retain supporting documentation and use findings to improve future controls.
I would acknowledge the issue quickly, clarify the employee's need, review the relevant records and policy, and identify the appropriate resolution path. If another team or provider is needed, I would coordinate ownership, communicate realistic timelines, and follow through until the employee has a clear answer.
I would map the current workflow, collect examples of common exceptions, and identify decision points that create inconsistency or delay. I would then define a practical standard process, create an SOP with ownership and escalation criteria, test it with stakeholders, and monitor outcomes to refine it.

As a Benefits Operations Specialist, you will be a subject matter expert in the day-to-day execution and administration of Zscaler’s EMEA benefit programs. You will serve as the backbone of the benefits function, ensuring that the employee life-cycle from onboarding to off-boarding is handled with precision, empathy, and compliance, focusing on high-touch administration of complex leave cases and the seamless delivery of our benefits concierge service.
What you’ll do (Role Expectations)
Lead the end-to-end administration for new hire enrollments, leaver processing, and off-cycle qualifying life events while owning the monthly benefits-to-payroll data bridge
Manage the submission and tracking of insurance claims for disability and sick leave, conducting quarterly headcount audits to ensure 100% data integrity with all benefit providers
Serve as the senior point of escalation for complex employee inquiries, resolving issues within defined SLAs and educating staff on the most beneficial support options
Identify process ambiguities to document solutions in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and manage the end-to-end invoice reconciliation process for all vendor billing
Who You Are (Success Profile)

You act like an owner. Your passion for the mission fuels your bias for action. You operate with integrity because you genuinely care about the outcome. True ownership involves leveraging dynamic range: the ability to navigate seamlessly between high-level strategy and hands-on execution.
You are a problem-solver. You seek out challenges because you are energized by finding solutions, knowing that solving the hard problems delivers the biggest impact.
You are a high-trust collaborator. You are ambitious for the team, not just yourself. You embrace our challenge culture by giving and receiving ongoing feedback, knowing that candor delivered with clarity and respect is the truest form of teamwork and the fastest way to earn trust.
You are a learner. You have a true growth mindset and are obsessed with your own development, actively seeking feedback to become a better partner and a stronger teammate. You love what you do and you do it with purpose.
