Sample interview questions
How would you translate GMV, take rate, churn, and net revenue retention into an actionable forecast for leadership?

I would build a driver-based model that separates customer volume, transaction activity, take rate, retention, expansion, and churn. I would reconcile the drivers to historical actuals, create base, upside, and downside scenarios, and identify the assumptions with the greatest impact on revenue and margin. I would present the resulting risks, opportunities, and recommended actions in a concise decision-focused narrative.

Describe how you would evaluate a proposed investment in a new market or product launch.

I would clarify the strategic objective, customer proposition, required investment, timeline, and measurable success criteria. I would model revenue ramp, contribution margin, acquisition costs, operating expenses, cash impact, and sensitivity to key assumptions such as conversion and retention. I would then recommend whether to proceed, stage the investment, or require further evidence based on returns, risks, and strategic fit.

How do you make finance reporting useful to non-finance stakeholders?

I focus on the decision the audience needs to make rather than presenting every available metric. I use a small number of clearly defined drivers, explain variances in business language, and distinguish facts from assumptions. I also end reporting with implications, ownership, and recommended next actions.

What approach would you take to improve a planning process when data quality and tooling are still evolving?

I would first define the critical decisions and minimum reliable inputs needed for the planning cycle. I would establish clear metric definitions, ownership, source-of-truth rules, and reconciliation checks, while documenting known limitations. In parallel, I would prioritize automation and system improvements that remove the highest-risk manual work without delaying essential planning decisions.

Tell us how you would challenge a senior stakeholder’s resource request while preserving a strong business partnership.

I would begin by understanding the business objective, expected outcomes, and alternatives rather than challenging the request at face value. I would use transparent data and scenarios to show the trade-offs, including opportunity cost, expected return, and downside risk. I would offer constructive options, such as phased funding or measurable milestones, so the discussion remains focused on achieving the shared outcome.

About this role.

What do we do?

Paddle offers digital product companies a completely different approach to their payment infrastructure. Instead of assembling and maintaining a complex stack of payments-related apps and services, we’re a Merchant of Record for our customers. That means we take away 100% of the pain of payment fragmentation. It’s faster, safer, cheaper, and, above all, way better.

We’re backed by investors including KKR, FTV Capital, Kindred, Notion, and 83North and serve over 10,000 software sellers in 245 territories globally.

The role:

Paddle’s FP&A team is at an exciting inflection point. We’ve built the foundations of our planning infrastructure, and are looking to scale our impact across the business.

As a Sr. FP&A Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between financial insight and commercial execution, reporting into the Director of FP&A. You’ll partner with business leaders to translate Paddle’s complex transaction-based business model into clear strategic recommendations that drive profitable growth and investment efficiency, becoming the interface between finance and the business.

This role offers the perfect blend of commercial influence and hands-on impact, with opportunities to shape major business decisions while building the next evolution of FP&A capability at Paddle.

What you’ll do:

  • Commercial Finance & Business Partnering

    • Build financial partnerships with key stakeholders across the business (e.g. GTM, Operations), becoming a trusted advisor to senior leaders on resource allocation, commercial strategy and investment optimisation for Marketing and Product decisions.

    • Drive insights from Paddle’s key metrics (GMV, take rate, CAC, LTV, NRR, churn) into actionable recommendations that influence business direction.

    • Leverage finance insights to inform finance and business leadership of important risks and opportunities.

    • Support business case development for strategic initiatives such as pricing strategy, market/ product expansion and or new launches.

    • Partner with the Director of FP&A and the VP of Finance to support board-level reporting and strategic narratives.

  • Forecasting & Analysis

    • Support the evolution of Paddle’s planning models to bridge financial targets with operational execution, enabling our leadership team to translate cross functional insights into faster and better-informed strategic decisions.

    • Build and deliver management reporting and dashboards that cut through complexity—ensuring finance insights and recommendations are timely, focused, and decision-oriented.

    • Develop deep expertise in Paddle’s transaction-based revenue model, bringing visibility to performance across customer segments, geographies, and products.

    • Identify opportunities to optimize unit economics and improve capital efficiency across the business.

  • Team Development

    • Bring fresh perspectives to our KPI framework and support the team in building commercial fluency.

    • Contribute to building a high-performing, high-EQ FP&A culture that values clarity, ownership, and collaboration. We strive for a high-impact, low-ego culture.

    • Represent FP&A in cross-functional projects, championing data-driven decision-making across the organization.

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Commercially astute and strategically minded – you can connect financial data to business outcomes, and you’re energized by influencing commercial strategy, not just reporting on it.

  • An exceptional business partner – established in stakeholder management, you can translate complex financial concepts into simple, compelling narratives for non-finance audiences and build trusted relationships with senior leaders.

  • Technically strong in FP&A fundamentals – proficient in financial modeling, forecasting, and scenario planning, ideally with experience in SaaS, payments, or transaction-based business models.

  • Comfortable with complexity and ambiguity – you thrive in fast-paced scale-up environments where you’re flying the plane whilst building it, navigating data quality challenges and evolving tooling (we’re re-implementing Pigment).

  • Looking to develop the way the team and Paddle operates… and develop yourself too in the process. You enjoy mentoring others and building capability across the team.

  • Detail-oriented with strong executive presence – you balance precision and accuracy with the ability to zoom out and present confidently to C-level stakeholders.

  • Someone who does what they say, to a very high standard, consistently – you believe that this is how long term trust is built with the business.
