The role, at a glance.
ClickUp seeks a Growth Product Manager to own the post-signup journey from onboarding and activation through retention and paid conversion. The role combines growth product strategy with hands-on development of AI-driven, user-level lifecycle content and decisioning systems. The manager will diagnose funnel drop-off, launch in-product and email experiments, and build feedback loops that adapt based on performance data. This is an individual-contributor role with substantial autonomy and close collaboration with founders, Product, Engineering, and Data. Success depends on measurable improvements in activation, monetization, and churn reduction for a self-serve SaaS product.

Sample interview questions
I would map the full journey from signup to the first meaningful product outcome, identify the largest and most actionable drop-off, and combine quantitative event data with user research. I would then ship a focused product or lifecycle intervention, measure lift against a control group, and validate that downstream retention or conversion improved rather than merely moving an upstream metric.
I would establish a user-context layer covering intent, workspace configuration, team state, feature adoption, and recent behavior. A decisioning system would select the next best intervention, while generation models create channel-appropriate content with guardrails; outcomes would feed a monitored learning loop, with humans approving policy, experimentation design, and high-risk messaging.
Templated segmentation sends predefined variants to broad cohorts, while effective personalization uses current individual context to determine both the intervention and its content. I would evaluate it through incremental lift, relevance signals, engagement quality, and downstream activation or retention, not simply open or click rates.
I would track eligible-user exposure, upgrade conversion, revenue per eligible user, time to conversion, and plan mix. I would also monitor cancellation, refund, support-contact, and retention cohorts to ensure the experience communicates real product value rather than creating short-term pressure.
I would align early on the business outcome, customer problem, decision rights, and success metrics, then communicate concise evidence-based updates. I would use small prototypes and controlled releases to learn quickly, document decisions and trade-offs, and escalate only decisions that require cross-functional sponsorship.
About this role.
At ClickUp, we’re building the future of work: the first truly converged AI workspace unifying tasks, docs, chat, calendar, and enterprise search, all supercharged by context-driven AI. We are an AI-native company. Every team member is expected to leverage AI daily, and we evaluate AI fluency as part of our hiring process. Join us and help redefine what’s possible. 🚀
Summary
You’ll build and own the AI-powered growth system that takes users from signup to getting real value from ClickUp, adopting Brain², and choosing to pay. You’ll work closely with our founders, who are deeply involved in how we build with AI, and you’ll be expected to push what’s possible alongside them. This is a hands-on builder role, not a campaign or roadmap management role.
Responsibilities
Own the post-signup journey across onboarding, activation, retention, and conversion to paid, connecting in-product experiences, in-app guidance, and lifecycle email.
Find where users drop off in onboarding and activation funnels, and partner with Product to ship changes that fix them.
Build AI systems that generate new content for each individual user based on their intent, workspace context, and product behavior.
Build recursive learning loops so the system measures outcomes, learns what worked, and improves future content and decisions on its own, with humans reviewing and steering.
Drive paywall, upgrade, promo, and anti-churn experiences that reflect real value, not short-term pressure.
Partner directly with the founders, Product, Engineering, and Data to prototype, ship, and iterate fast.
Requirements
5+ years in growth, lifecycle, or growth product roles in self-serve SaaS, with measurable activation, retention, or monetization results.
Proven experience optimizing onboarding and activation funnels, working closely with Product to ship changes to the core experience, not just the messaging around it.
Hands-on experience building AI systems that generate user-level content, beyond templated personalization or segment routing.
Hands-on experience building systems that recursively learn from performance data and adapt without manual rework.
Technical fluency to connect behavioral data, AI decisioning, content generation, and delivery into one working system.
Strong experimentation and product judgment, and comfortable operating as an IC with high ownership and little process.
How We’ll Evaluate You
Show us what you built. Walk us through a system or funnel improvement you owned: how it worked, what you owned, and what it moved.
Show us how you’d build it here. Walk us through how you’d build an AI-native lifecycle system for ClickUp, including what it knows about each user, how it generates their next message, how it learns from results, and where humans stay involved.
