Sample interview questions
How do you approach a client-reported issue in a complex software system?

I first clarify the client’s expected outcome, scope, urgency, and any recent changes. I reproduce the issue when possible, review relevant configuration and documentation, then isolate whether the cause is user process, configuration, defect, or an enhancement request. I communicate status and next steps throughout the investigation and document the final resolution.

Describe how you would manage several client requests with competing deadlines.

I would triage requests by business impact, urgency, dependencies, and agreed service expectations. I would keep a visible ticket queue, break complex work into clear milestones, and notify clients early if priorities or timelines need adjustment. Regular follow-ups with internal stakeholders help prevent blockers from becoming missed commitments.

What would you test after implementing a configuration change?

I would test the requested workflow end to end, including normal paths, validation rules, permissions, downstream integrations, and likely edge cases. I would compare results against the documented requirements and confirm that existing client processes are not adversely affected. I would record evidence of testing and obtain client confirmation where appropriate.

How do you translate a client request into a useful development ticket?

I capture the business problem, desired outcome, current behavior, affected users, examples, acceptance criteria, and priority. I distinguish required functionality from proposed solutions and identify configuration alternatives before escalating. I then review the ticket with developers or technical analysts to resolve ambiguity and keep the client informed of progress.

How would you build trust with an assigned portfolio of clients?

I would be responsive, set realistic expectations, and communicate in language that matches each client’s technical comfort level. I would learn their workflows and key deadlines so I can provide context-aware support rather than generic answers. Consistent follow-through, clear documentation, and proactive updates are essential to building long-term trust.
