Sample interview questions
How do you run a sales discovery call for a complex privacy or compliance solution?

I prepare by researching the prospect’s industry, likely regulations, technology stack, and business priorities. During the call, I use open questions to identify business impact, current processes, risk exposure, decision criteria, stakeholders, timeline, and budget. I then confirm the problem statement and agree on clear next steps tied to measurable value.

Describe how you would sell to both legal and technical stakeholders who have different priorities.

I tailor the conversation to each audience while maintaining one shared business case. For legal and compliance teams, I emphasize regulatory readiness, defensibility, and risk reduction; for technical teams, I focus on implementation, integrations, data visibility, and operational efficiency. I document shared success criteria so the buying group can align around outcomes.

What is your approach to maintaining an accurate sales forecast?

I maintain rigorous CRM hygiene, validate close dates against buyer actions, and assess opportunities using defined qualification criteria. I distinguish committed deals from upside based on stakeholder alignment, commercial progress, technical validation, and a mutually agreed next step. I also surface risks early and create specific mitigation plans rather than relying on optimism.

How do you handle pricing objections during a negotiation?

I first clarify whether the concern is budget, perceived value, timing, or a competitive comparison. I reconnect pricing to the cost of the customer’s problem and the agreed outcomes, then explore appropriate commercial options without discounting prematurely. Any concession should be reciprocal, such as a longer term, accelerated timeline, or broader scope.

Tell us about a time you recovered a stalled opportunity.

I would revisit the original business driver and identify the specific reason momentum stopped, such as an unengaged executive sponsor, unclear implementation concern, or competing priority. I would create a concise mutual action plan with the customer, bring in the right internal experts, and establish a concrete decision path. If urgency could not be re-established, I would accurately reforecast the deal while preserving a helpful relationship for future engagement.
