Sample interview questions
I begin by clarifying the intended business outcomes, scope boundaries, success measures, and key assumptions. I then decompose the work into milestones, deliverables, owners, dependencies, resource needs, and a realistic integrated schedule, validating the plan with stakeholders before establishing reporting and governance cadences.
I make the competing objectives and trade-offs visible through structured discussions supported by data on scope, timing, cost, risk, and expected outcomes. I seek alignment on decision criteria, document agreed priorities, and escalate unresolved decisions through the appropriate governance forum with clear recommendations.
I review risks, assumptions, issues, and dependencies regularly with workstream owners and assign each item a clear owner, due date, impact assessment, and mitigation action. I distinguish items requiring immediate escalation from those that can be monitored, and use trends in the log to anticipate delivery threats early.
I partner with change-management resources early to assess stakeholder impacts, readiness, communications, training, and reinforcement needs. I define adoption measures alongside delivery milestones and use feedback after launch to address process gaps, behavior changes, and support requirements.
I would provide a concise decision package covering objectives, delivery readiness, unresolved risks, financial and operational impacts, dependencies, alternatives, and my explicit recommendation. The presentation would state the decision required, the consequences of each option, and the actions needed immediately after the decision.

We’re looking for a Senior Project Manager to lead individual workstreams within our broader business transformation program. You will help support the implementation, development and iteration of workstreams within a program within the overall business transformation strategy. You’ll be responsible for planning, executing, and delivering projects that improve how the business operates – spanning process redesign, systems implementation, and organizational change; while working closely with the Transformation Lead and business stakeholders to ensure outcomes stick.
YOUR ROLE WILL CONSIST OF:
- Own the end-to-end delivery of assigned projects: scope, schedule, budget, risk, and quality
- Translate a transformation charter into a detailed project plan with clear milestones, owners, and dependencies
- Run regular status reporting (RYG statuses) and escalate risks and blockers before they become critical
- Facilitate cross-functional working sessions with stakeholders across Ops, IT, Finance, and other impacted teams
- Maintain project’s RAID log (risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies) and drive mitigation actions to closure
- Manage resource needs in coordination with the team’s capacity planning process
- Partner with change management resources to ensure adoption, not just technical completion of project deliverables
- Conduct stage reviews and present go/no-go recommendations to the steering committee
- Run post-implementation reviews and capture lessons learned for the broader team members
- Oversee implementation, delivery and closure of multiple projects to ensure they are delivered on time, within budget, and on schedule
- Liaise with stakeholders to define the scope, timeline, resources required and define any risk management plans
- Define clear roles and responsibilities of the participating team members within each initiative
- Lead multiple project streams with successful turnarounds to achieve timelines
- Identify risks, prepare contingency and recovery plans in the event of project delays
- Develop strategies to ensure efficient resource planning and allocation in alignment with the team’s strategy
- Apply change management processes to manage stakeholders’ expectations throughout the life cycle of a project, specifically managing changes to a project (added feature/requirements, extended deadline, added budget)
YOU MIGHT BE A FIT IF YOU HAVE:
- 6+ years of project management experience, ideally including business transformation, process improvement, or systems implementation projects
- 6+ years of experience in managing multiple end-to-end project life cycles
- Preferred experience in Business Transformation projects and implementation experience working with multiple teams to focus on driving financial and operational results including behavioral changes such as design change strategy, assessing stakeholder impact, and organizational readiness
- Identify project risks, prepare contingency and project recovery plans
- Ability to quickly gain the trust and respect of senior stakeholders internally and with outside vendors
- Experience in budgeting, scoping, scheduling and driving projects from initiation to delivery
- Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders with competing priorities and drive alignment across business users, vendors, and stakeholders
- Strong working knowledge of project management fundamentals: charters, schedules, budgets, risk registers, change control
- Comfort working in both structured such as waterfall and iterative (Agile) delivery environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication, able to translate technical or operational complexity into clear updates for executive audiences
- Experience with project tracking tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Jira/Confluence) and standard reporting formats
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Based in US Eastern Time
What Success Looks Like in the First 6 Months
- Fully onboarded onto a few active transformation workstreams
- Established a reliable status reporting cadence with team members
- Feeling comfortable with follow ups within cross-functional team members involved in a workstream
