Sample interview questions
I would establish a transparent prioritization model that weighs compliance risk, close-critical impact, financial value, customer impact, delivery dependencies, and effort. I would reserve capacity for production and audit-critical work, review priorities regularly with Finance leadership, and communicate trade-offs through a visible roadmap.
I would begin by mapping the existing reconciliation inventory, ownership model, risk classifications, and close calendar. I would then design standardized templates, workflows, certifications, exception handling, dashboards, and GL integrations, pilot the highest-risk accounts, and phase adoption with clear controls, training, and measurable close improvements.
I partner with controllership, internal audit, and security teams to document key controls, segregation-of-duties requirements, approval workflows, configuration evidence, and change-management procedures. I also validate controls through testing, retain audit-ready documentation, monitor exceptions, and drive remediation through accountable owners and deadlines.
I would define a clear operating model separating KTLO responsibilities from transformation work, with SLAs, quality measures, escalation paths, documentation standards, and regular service reviews. I would retain ownership of architecture, prioritization, acceptance criteria, and business outcomes while holding the MSP accountable for support execution and knowledge continuity.
I would analyze close, reconciliation, billing, expense, tax, and treasury processes for high-volume manual steps, error rates, control gaps, and cycle-time constraints. After validating the business case, I would favor native Oracle capabilities where practical, define measurable success criteria, test the workflow with users and controls stakeholders, and scale only after demonstrating reliable results.
About this role.
Natera is seeking a hands-on Finance Functional Lead, Oracle Fusion Cloud within IS&T to serve as the single functional owner and key point of contact for Finance leadership across an aggressive Oracle Fusion Finance transformation. This role owns Oracle Fusion Financials end-to-end, from roadmap and backlog to hands-on configuration, delivery, and adoption and is the primary IS&T partner for the Controller, Senior Finance Leadership, and Accounting organization.
This role owns product outcomes, finance domain delivery, automation impact, and audit readiness. The candidate will govern an offshore MSP for KTLO support while personally owning all net-new initiatives and capabilities within the Finance domain. Not just requirements gathering or ticket execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Ownership: Own the product vision, roadmap, sprint planning, and backlog for Oracle Fusion Financials, including GL, AP, AR, FA, Cash Management, Project Accounting, Lease Accounting, Consolidations & Eliminations, Intercompany, Expenses, Billing, Revenue, Tax, Treasury, Cost Accounting, and FP&A enablement.
- Single Owner – Finance Domain Delivery: Serve as the sole accountable owner for all Oracle Fusion Finance net-new initiatives from design through go-live. Own delivery roadmap, prioritization, and outcomes end to end with no hand-offs. Drive at pace in a high-velocity, high-expectation Finance environment.
- Key Business POC – Finance Leadership Partnership: Act as the primary point of contact for the Controller, Senior Finance Leadership, and accounting teams. Translate business requirements into system design, present solution decisions clearly, and build trusted relationships that position IS&T as a strategic partner and not like a ticket queue.
- Offshore MSP Governance – KTLO Oversight: Direct and govern the offshore managed service partner (MSP) responsible for keep-the-lights-on (KTLO) support across Finance modules. Set quality standards, review deliverables, escalate risks, and ensure MSP execution meets business SLAs while staying focused on transformation.
- Solution Delivery: Perform hands-on functional configuration and system changes within Oracle Fusion Financials, including setups, controls, and process improvements. Lead end-to-end delivery including testing, training, documentation, quarterly upgrades, release readiness, and production stability.
- Consolidations, Eliminations & ARCS: Own solution analysis, functional design and delivery of financial consolidation and intercompany elimination processes. Lead implementation and optimization of Oracle Account Reconciliation Cloud Service (ARCS) including reconciliation templates, compliance workflows, period-close dashboards, and GL integration.
- Project Accounting & Lease Accounting: Implement and sustain Oracle Fusion Project Accounting (project costing, billing, capitalization, GL/FA integration) and Lease Accounting.
- Period Close, Audit Support & Compliance: Own functional configuration supporting month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close (reconciliations, subledger close, intercompany eliminations, and financial reporting). Support SOX walkthroughs, prepare audit PBC documentation, maintain control documentation, and drive audit remediation within Oracle Fusion.
- Intelligent Automation Delivery: Design, implement, and drive AI and intelligent automation across close, billing, reconciliations, T&E, tax, and treasury processes, utilizing Oracle AI and other automation frameworks. Identify opportunities to rationalize manual workarounds with native Oracle capability.
- Integrations: Collaborate with integration and engineering teams on extensions and integration of adjacent Finance applications (e.g., Concur, Workday, Blackline, Workiva, Adaptive), providing functional leadership, validation, and business context.
- Trusted Reporting: Understand Finance reporting & analytical requirements and deliver dashboards, KPIs, and insights using Oracle tools (BIP/OTBI) or by partnering with BI/Analytics teams.
- SOX Compliance & Audit Readiness: Ensure system configuration supports SOX-compliant financial controls, proper segregation of duties, and audit traceability across all Finance modules.
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of hands-on experience owning/supporting Finance ERP platforms within IS&T/IT with Oracle ERP implementation expertise.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with Oracle Fusion Financials – functional configuration, data analysis & reporting (BIP/OTBI), testing, and production support.
- Deep, practical knowledge of core finance and accounting processes including Record-to-Report, Close, Billing, Revenue, Cost Accounting, Tax, Treasury, and FP&A.
- Proven hands-on experience with Consolidations & Eliminations within Oracle Fusion.
- Finance and accounting foundation CPA, CMA, or direct GL/AP/AR/close/audit experience strongly preferred. You understand the books, not just the system.
- Offshore MSP management experience: ability to govern, direct, and hold accountable a third-party delivery team across KTLO and support functions.
- Executive communication skills: proven ability to present, influence, and partner directly with Controllers, VPs of Finance, and senior accounting leadership.
- Experience utilizing AI capabilities in transforming Finance operations.
- Direct experience integrating and governing best-of-breed Finance applications.
- Strong financial and analytical expertise with deep knowledge of Oracle Finance core data structures to enable accurate financial reporting.
- Strong SOX, audit, and regulated-environment experience.
- Thrives in aggressive, high-velocity environments with shifting priorities and high Finance leadership expectations.
- Proactive, solutions-oriented, and business outcomes mindset.
- Strong project/program management skills and experience in Agile/iterative delivery models.
- Commitment to clear documentation, governance, and operational rigor.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working at a Big 4 or Tier-1 consulting firm (e.g., Deloitte, Accenture, EY, PwC) delivering Oracle Finance or enterprise ERP solutions.
- Oracle Fusion ERP/Financials certifications.
- Project Accounting, Lease Accounting implementation experience
- Experience supporting Finance platforms through M&A, integrations, or rapid business scale.
- Life sciences, diagnostics, or medical device industry experience.
