Core skills

Skills and capabilities most closely associated with this opportunity.

Sample interview questions
How do you ensure that a biology patent translation preserves both technical accuracy and legal meaning?

I first identify key claims, defined terms, and recurring scientific terminology. I maintain a terminology list, verify ambiguous terms against reliable scientific and patent references, and conduct a final comparison against the source to ensure no qualifiers, limitations, or relationships have changed.

Describe your experience translating or reviewing patent content in biology.

I have worked with technical patent materials such as specifications, claims, abstracts, and supporting documentation involving biological processes and terminology. My review process focuses on terminology consistency, syntax affecting claim scope, numerical data, and completeness.

How would you handle a source term that has no clear established Slovak equivalent?

I would research authoritative Slovak and European patent usage, assess the context and client glossary, and select a precise, readable rendering. If uncertainty remains, I would document the decision or raise a targeted query rather than make an unsupported assumption.

What quality checks do you perform before delivering a patent translation?

I run CAT-tool QA checks, review numbers, units, tags, repetitions, and terminology, then proofread the target text for grammar and legal-scientific clarity. I also compare critical sections such as claims, definitions, and references with the source.

How do you manage deadlines and communication in a remote freelance workflow?

I confirm scope and delivery requirements at the start, plan work around the requested volume, and provide early notice of risks or questions. I respond promptly through the required channels and keep project materials organized so that delivery is reliable and traceable.
