The role, at a glance.
Ramp is hiring a senior Money Laundering Reporting Officer to serve as the legally appointed AML/ATF compliance lead for its FINTRAC-registered Canadian money services business. The role owns the Canadian AML program end to end, including risk assessments, suspicious transaction reporting, transaction-monitoring investigations, sanctions screening, training, and examination readiness. This standalone leader will engage directly with FINTRAC, BMO, and internal Legal, Compliance, Regulatory Affairs, Global, and Engineering teams. Candidates need deep FINTRAC expertise, independent regulatory judgment, and experience building scalable AML controls in a fintech, payments, or MSB environment.

Sample interview questions
I would begin with a documented enterprise risk assessment covering products, customers, geographies, delivery channels, and transaction patterns. I would then implement proportionate policies, KYC and monitoring controls, escalation paths, reporting governance, training, independent testing, and management reporting, with regular refreshes as the business changes.
I would ensure investigators document the facts, transaction history, customer profile, and relevant risk indicators, then assess whether there are reasonable grounds to suspect money laundering or terrorist activity financing. The decision would be timely, independently made, consistently documented, and supported by quality assurance and clear record retention.
I would maintain an exam-ready evidence library containing the risk assessment, policies, training records, monitoring and sanctions procedures, case files, reporting records, governance minutes, and testing results. Before an examination, I would run a targeted gap assessment, assign owners for remediation, and prepare concise narratives that demonstrate how controls operate in practice.
I would identify high-volume, repeatable tasks such as alert enrichment, document summarization, case prioritization, and quality-control support. Any AI workflow would have defined controls, explainability standards, access safeguards, human review for material decisions, and ongoing performance monitoring to avoid weakening regulatory compliance.
I would map each requirement to the relevant legal obligation, contractual commitment, and risk rationale, then identify gaps or conflicts early. I would communicate transparently with the partner, document decisions and approvals, and implement the stronger practical control where appropriate while preserving clear accountability for Ramp's regulatory obligations.
About this role.
About Ramp
Ramp is building the smart infrastructure for finance teams, embedded in the transaction flow of every dollar a business spends. We automate how over $275B in annualized spend flows in and out of 85,000+ companies: authorizing payments, flagging risk, categorizing spend, and closing books.
The problems are high-stakes, data-dense, and unforgiving.
We hire people with high agency and high urgency. We look for slope over intercept. We care less about where you trained and more about what you’ve built. At Ramp, everyone is a builder who owns problems end to end and makes consequential decisions that shape the outcome.
The median Ramp customer saves 7.5% and grows revenue 16% in their first year – far in excess of businesses operating without Ramp. We believe every ambitious company deserves the same.
If you want to build systems that directly shape how companies move and manage billions, Ramp is the place to do it.
About the Role
Ramp is seeking an experienced Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) for its FINTRAC-registered Money Services Business entity. Under the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act and its Regulations, this role is the legally-appointed compliance officer responsible for implementing RBCC’s AML/ATF compliance program and for reporting suspicious transactions to FINTRAC. This is a standalone, high-accountability compliance leadership role: you will own Ramp Canada’s AML program end to end, act as the primary point of contact for FINTRAC and Ramp’s financial partners in the region, and serve as the gatekeeper protecting Ramp’s Canadian entity from financial crime.
What You’ll Do
Serve as RBCC’s MLRO, with authority over AML/ATF program design, execution, and effectiveness
Act as primary regulatory contact with FINTRAC, managing supervisory correspondence, reporting, and exam readiness
Make STR (Suspicious Transaction Report) filing determinations and file STRs
Run day-to-day transaction monitoring and sanctions screening triage and investigation for the Canadian book
-Own and maintain RBCC’s AML/ATF risk assessment, refreshing it as products, geography, and risk profile evolve (including Quebec’s onboarding)
Develop, document, and deliver RBCC’s ongoing compliance training program
Define and stand up the operational workstreams for Canada, including case types, SLAs, escalation paths, tooling.
Negotiate and clarify AML/compliance requirements directly with BMO (our Canadian banking partner) and other partners as new products and use cases come online
Partner with Ramp’s broader Compliance, Legal, and Regulatory Affairs teams (US) on cross-border projects and Canada’s continued expansion
Partner with the Global team and the Engineering team to identify areas of opportunity for automation, and operational efficiency and lead AI-driven initiatives.
What You Need
8+ years of financial services experience in compliance, AML, or related regulatory advisory roles, preferably in fintech or at an MSB
Deep working knowledge of FINTRAC’s supervisory expectations and regulations
Direct experience interfacing with regulators and bank partners
AI Fluency and demonstrated experience leveraging AI to build and scale AML programs
Comfort operating as a standalone compliance lead with independent judgment on filing/escalation decisions
Experience building an AML program from a nascent/early stage, not only maintaining an established one
Fintech or payments domain experience (card issuing, corporate expense, high-velocity digital transaction monitoring) strongly preferred over traditional retail-branch compliance background
Nice-to-Haves
Fluency in French
Experience supporting an MSB registration/licensing process (e.g., provincial registrations such as Quebec)
Prior cross-border/group compliance structure experience
Data analysis skills
Benefits available to all full-time Ramp employees (Global)
