Sample interview questions
How do you ensure accuracy when translating a biology-related patent from English into Czech?

I first identify the patent's technical field, claims structure, defined terms, and reference terminology. I research authoritative biological and patent-language sources, maintain a termbase, and perform a final bilingual review focused on consistency, units, figures, and legal effect.

What is your approach to translating patent claims?

I preserve the logical structure, dependencies, scope, and defined terminology of every claim. I avoid unnecessary stylistic changes and verify that repeated claim elements are translated identically unless the source clearly requires otherwise.

Describe your experience using CAT tools in a translation workflow.

I use CAT tools to apply translation memories, termbases, quality checks, and project-specific instructions. Before delivery, I resolve tag issues, run consistency and terminology QA, and confirm that segment-level choices work correctly in context.

How would you handle an ambiguous source term in a patent document?

I would review the specification, claims, drawings, and prior occurrences to determine the intended meaning. If ambiguity remains material, I would document the issue and submit a concise query rather than make an unsupported assumption.

How do you manage recurring freelance volume while maintaining quality?

I estimate capacity based on technical complexity, reserve time for research and review, and communicate early about risks to deadlines. I use structured QA checklists and terminology resources so that speed does not compromise consistency or accuracy.
