Sample interview questions
How do you ensure that a biology patent translation preserves both scientific accuracy and legal meaning?

I first identify key claims, defined terms, and recurring biological terminology. I use approved terminology resources and translation memories, then perform a separate review focused on consistency, claim structure, and any wording that could change technical scope.

Describe your experience translating or reviewing patent documents in biology.

I have worked with technical patent content involving biological processes, laboratory methods, compounds, and related scientific terminology. My review process includes terminology validation, source-target comparison, and checks for consistency across claims, descriptions, and figures.

How do you manage terminology when no approved glossary is available?

I research reliable domain sources, examine terminology used in related patent publications, and document decisions in a project glossary. I apply terms consistently and raise potentially ambiguous choices with the project team when clarification is needed.

What steps do you take when working in CAT tools such as XTM?

I review project instructions and available translation memories before translating, use terminology features consistently, and run automated QA checks before delivery. I also conduct a final contextual review because automated checks cannot fully assess legal or scientific meaning.

How do you handle a high-volume assignment with an urgent deadline?

I assess the files and terminology upfront, plan work around the required delivery schedule, and communicate early about risks or questions. I prioritize consistency and review time, using CAT-tool leverage efficiently without compromising patent-quality standards.
