About this role.

About Us

Socket helps devs and security teams ship faster by cutting out security busywork. Thousands of orgs use Socket to safely find, audit, and manage open source code. Our customers – from Anthropic to xAI, and Figma to Vercel – love Socket (just check out their tweets to see for yourself!)

Founded by Feross Aboukhadijeh, a long-time open source maintainer with software downloaded over a billion times a month, Socket has raised $125M in funding from top angels, operators, and security leaders.

About the Role

We’re hiring a Head of Product to define where Socket goes next and build the product function to support our next stage of growth. We’ve built a platform with strong product-market pull, a rapidly growing customer base, and a lot of room to grow. You’ll set the product strategy, bring our growing portfolio together into a cohesive platform, and help define what software supply chain security looks like as AI changes how software gets built.

You’ll work directly with Feross and the leadership team, and have real influence over what we build, where we invest, and how we grow. Partnering closely with Engineering, Sales, Customer Engineering, and Threat Intelligence, you’ll turn customer needs and market opportunities into clear product direction and products that ship. You’ll stay close to customers, understand where the biggest problems are, and help us focus on the opportunities that will have the greatest impact. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll shape both the big picture and the decisions that bring it to life.

You’ll also build the product function itself: establishing how we prioritize across our portfolio, make tradeoffs, measure success, and communicate our roadmap. You’ll create the practices and team that allow us to move quickly without losing focus, bringing clarity to what we’re building, why it matters, and how each product fits into the bigger picture.

What You’ll Do

  • Set product strategy across Socket’s portfolio. Connect customer needs, market opportunities, and our technical strengths to a focused set of priorities.

  • Get close to customer problems. Join customer calls, learn from support and sales conversations, and understand what’s behind a feature request before deciding how to solve it.

  • Partner with Engineering to turn complex security challenges into intuitive, technically sound products. Define clear requirements and success metrics, help navigate technical trade-offs, and give engineers the ownership to determine how we build.

  • Make prioritization decisions explicit. Balance customer commitments, support escalations, reliability, and new opportunities against engineering capacity. Be clear about product boundaries and what a new priority displaces.

  • Own outcomes, not just launches. Define the customer impact we’re aiming for, the assumptions we need to validate, and how we’ll measure success. Use adoption data and customer feedback to inform what we do next.

  • Partner with Sales on positioning, demos, and launches that clearly communicate what we’re building, who it’s for, and why it matters.

  • Build a practical way to plan and communicate product work. Keep priorities, decisions, and roadmaps clear, and help customer-facing teams distinguish commitments from ideas we’re still exploring.

  • Grow the product function over time. Help shape how we hire, collaborate, and develop the team while staying close to the work.

What You’ll Bring

  • Senior product leadership experience, with a track record of taking complex products from strategy through launch and learning from the results.

  • Experience building for developers, security teams, or other technical users, ideally in security, infrastructure, or B2B software.

  • Technical fluency. You can work through architecture and implementation trade-offs, ask good questions, and earn the trust of engineers.

  • Strong product judgment. You can separate important problems from competing requests, set boundaries, and make decisions with incomplete information.

  • An understanding of how customer value translates into business results. You know how technical products are evaluated, adopted, and expanded within an organization.

  • Clear written and verbal communication. You can explain complex problems simply, document the reasoning behind a decision, and help teams understand what we’re doing and why.

  • A hands-on approach. You’re comfortable building where there’s no established playbook, creating structure where it helps, and moving quickly without losing sight of the details.

  • Preferred

    • Experience with software supply chain security, application security, vulnerability management, or developer tooling.

    • Experience building a product function at an early-stage company while continuing to ship.

Sample interview questions
How would you develop a product strategy for Socket’s growing portfolio?

I would start with customer segmentation, current adoption data, market trends, and Socket’s technical differentiation. I would identify the highest-value customer problems, define a small number of strategic bets with explicit success metrics, and communicate the resulting trade-offs through a portfolio roadmap.

Describe how you prioritize a major customer request against reliability work and a new-market opportunity.

I make the decision criteria explicit: customer impact, strategic fit, revenue or retention risk, urgency, engineering effort, and opportunity cost. I align stakeholders on those criteria, assess the evidence, and clearly state what will be deferred when a new priority is accepted.

How do you work effectively with engineers on complex security products?

I establish shared understanding of the user problem, intended outcome, constraints, and measurable success criteria while inviting engineers to lead implementation choices. I ask enough architectural questions to understand risks and trade-offs without substituting product direction for engineering ownership.

What metrics would you use to evaluate a new supply-chain security capability?

I would measure activation, sustained adoption, workflow completion, issue detection or remediation rates, time saved, and customer retention or expansion indicators. I would pair quantitative telemetry with customer interviews to validate whether the capability solves a meaningful operational problem.

How would you build Socket’s product organization while remaining hands-on?

I would first create lightweight operating mechanisms for discovery, prioritization, roadmaps, and product reviews. As the team grows, I would hire product leaders for clearly defined ownership areas, coach them on decision quality, and remain directly involved in the company’s most strategic customer and portfolio decisions.
