Product Management Data Platform API Design Schema Design Metadata Management Cross-functional Leadership Strategic Planning Developer Experience Data Modeling CRM

I am writing to express my strong interest in the Senior Product Manager, Data Platform and Platform API position at HubSpot. With a background in data infrastructure and API design, I have successfully led products that define how data is structured, stored, and accessed. My experience includes owning metadata platforms and shaping REST/GraphQL APIs, aligning perfectly with the requirements of this role.

I thrive on the challenge of balancing technical depth with strategic product thinking. At my previous company, I drove schema evolution that improved developer velocity by 30% while maintaining backward compatibility. I am adept at collaborating with cross-functional teams and communicating technical vision to executives and customers.

HubSpot's commitment to empowering businesses through its data platform resonates with me. I am excited by the opportunity to shape the primitives that enable AI-powered products and ecosystem growth. I look forward to the possibility of contributing to your team.

How would you approach evolving HubSpot's data model to support AI-powered features while ensuring backward compatibility?
I would start by understanding the existing usage patterns and pain points through developer research and data analysis. Then, I'd prototype incremental changes that add new capabilities (e.g., flexible properties for AI) while leaving existing APIs unchanged. I'd work closely with engineering to implement versioning strategies and communicate a clear migration path to developers.
Describe a time when you had to align multiple teams around a common product vision. What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
At my last role, I led the unification of two API surfaces across different product teams. The main challenge was conflicting priorities and technical debt. I organized a series of workshops to build shared understanding, created a roadmap that addressed critical needs for all teams, and secured executive sponsorship. We shipped the unified API on time, reducing integration complexity for partners.
How do you measure success for a platform product like data primitives or APIs?
Key metrics include developer adoption rate, API response times, error rates, and developer satisfaction scores (e.g., NPS). For data primitives, I'd also track schema usage diversity and number of custom objects created. Ultimately, success means enabling other teams to build faster with fewer friction points.
Can you walk me through your process for defining a product strategy for a new data feature?
I start with user research and competitive analysis to identify gaps. Then I define the target outcome (e.g., 'enable customers to model complex relationships'). Next, I sketch potential technical approaches with engineering, evaluate tradeoffs, and align stakeholders. Finally, I create a phased roadmap starting with a minimal viable primitive, then iterate based on feedback.
How do you handle conflicts between making API changes that benefit developers but may break existing integrations?
I prioritize backward compatibility as much as possible, using versioning and deprecation policies. When breaking changes are necessary, I communicate early, provide migration guides, and offer extended support. I also work with partners to understand their timelines and ensure they have resources to adapt.

Senior Product Manager I (Data Platform and Platform API)

HubSpot CRM is the foundation of how hundreds of thousands of businesses manage their customers, pipelines, and growth. Underneath every contact, deal, ticket, and custom object is a shared data model, and a set of primitives that defines how data is structured, related, and accessed across the entire platform. The Data Platform organization owns those primitives, and will evolve how they enable customers, partners, and developers to use and extend HubSpot. HubSpot’s data model is an industry differentiator and primary reason why our customers choose HubSpot.

We’re looking for a Senior Technical Product Manager to own two of the highest-leverage surface areas in this organization: (1) the core data constructs that define HubSpot’s schema — objects and the metadata infrastructure that governs them and (2) the API mission for the Data Foundations org, setting the standard for how our data layer is accessed, extended, and built upon by developers and partners.

This is a highly technical role that will require high agency ownership throughout the organization and with our customers, partners, and developers. The decisions you make here ripple across every product team at HubSpot and every developer building on our platform. You’ll need to bring both a strong architectural intuition for data modeling and the strategic PM experience to evolve a foundational system without breaking what already works — for customers, for developers, and for the AI-powered products being built on top of it. This is a career-defining challenge for the right product mind.

In this role you’ll get to:

  • Create a shared vision and cohesive roadmap for HubSpot’s data primitives — objects, properties, property groups, associations, and the metadata systems that make them discoverable and extensible
  • Own the API mission for Data Platform: define standards for how our data layer is surfaced to developers, set the direction for API quality and consistency, and coordinate with Ecosystem and Partnerships teams on where API capability unlocks platform value
  • Drive alignment on schema evolution across HubSpot — working with PMs, engineers, and architects across Marketing, Sales, Service, and AI Agents to ensure the data model grows in a way that’s backward-compatible and forward-looking
  • Guide new product ideas from initial concept all the way through launch, including shipping improvements to how customers define and manage their own data model in HubSpot
  • Understand our customers and their data complexity by engaging with them directly — from SMBs managing simple contact records to enterprise teams running sophisticated multi-object data architectures
  • Use data and developer research to identify friction in our API surface, devise strategy to address it, and partner with engineering to ship improvements that measurably improve developer experience
  • Represent the data primitives and API roadmap to senior leadership, Ecosystem partners, and key enterprise customers

We are looking for people who have:

  • Experience launching products successfully to customers, ideally in platform, data infrastructure, or developer tooling contexts
  • Deep fluency in data modeling concepts — entity-relationship modeling, schema design, metadata systems, and data normalization; experience owning or contributing to a metadata platform, data catalog, or CRM data model is a strong plus
  • Strong API intuition — you’ve shaped REST or GraphQL APIs and can reason about versioning, backward compatibility, latency tradeoffs, and developer ergonomics
  • A multidisciplinary approach to thinking, combining market, business, and technical insights to identify opportunities and weigh tradeoffs
  • The ability to read and write technical specs; comfort reviewing architecture diagrams, ERDs, and API contracts
  • The ability to articulate product vision to a variety of audiences — engineers, executives, and external developers
  • A deep respect for the expertise and insights of their collaborators, including engineering, design, UX research, analytics, and others
  • A drive to understand customer needs deeply and to truly solve for their problems, including enterprise customers with sophisticated data requirements
  • A desire to understand how HubSpot products work — and how they depend on the data model underneath
  • The ability to make decisions, test assumptions, and iterate — often without perfect information
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt in an innovative and fast-paced environment
  • An understanding of the competitive software space, including how other CRM and data platforms approach schema extensibility and developer ecosystem
  • Experience using or building supporting infrastructure for AI products and agentic experiences

As a member of the Product Management org at HubSpot you’ll:

  • Join a product-led culture that truly puts the customer first
  • Create and advance an ambitious product strategy that’s driven by customer needs, business goals, powerful data, and global market indicators
  • Partner closely with colleagues in UX and Engineering to create a high-value product that’s both powerful and easy to use
  • Use your voice, share your perspective, and have a real impact based on your point of view
  • Know what will lead to getting promoted, and why, thanks to clear expectations and robust career paths
  • Be empowered to show up as your authentic self and choose a work style and location where you can do your best work, whether that’s at home, in an office, or a blend of the two.
