Key Skills

Product Management Activation Growth Funnel Optimization Experimentation Data Analysis Cross-functional Collaboration Product-Led Growth User Onboarding SaaS

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am excited to apply for the Staff Product Manager, Activation role at Linktree. With over 8 years of product management experience in growth and activation, I have a proven track record of driving user engagement and retention through data-driven experimentation. I am particularly drawn to this role because of its focus on helping new users reach meaningful outcomes quickly, which aligns with my passion for improving onboarding experiences.

In my previous role at a major tech company, I led a cross-functional team to revamp the activation funnel, resulting in a 25% increase in D7 retention. I am skilled in funnel analysis, experimentation design, and partnering with engineering and design to build scalable product experiences. I thrive in fast-paced environments where I can use data to uncover insights and turn them into simple, high-converting solutions.

I would love to bring my expertise in product-led growth and activation to Linktree and help shape the journey for millions of creators and businesses. Thank you for your consideration.

Can you describe a time when you significantly improved an activation metric? What was your approach and what were the results?
At my previous company, I led an initiative to improve activation by reducing time to first key action. I analyzed user behavior data to identify friction points in the onboarding flow, then designed and ran A/B tests to optimize the sequence. We implemented a personalized setup wizard that reduced setup time by 30% and increased D7 retention by 15%.
How do you define activation for a product like Linktree, and what metrics would you use to measure it?
Activation is when a user completes their first meaningful experience that demonstrates the product's core value. For Linktree, that could be setting up a profile, adding links, and sharing it. Key metrics would include setup completion rate, time to first share, and early engagement like traffic to their links. I'd also look at leading indicators like D7 retention and whether users add more links within the first week.
Describe your experience with experimentation tools and how you ensure experiments are reliable.
I have hands-on experience with Amplitude and Optimizely for designing and analyzing experiments. I ensure reliability by defining clear hypotheses, using proper randomization, calculating required sample sizes, and monitoring for novelty effects. I also segment results by user cohorts to understand impact on different groups.
How have you used qualitative insights to inform your product decisions?
I regularly conduct user interviews and analyze session recordings to understand user pain points. For example, during an onboarding redesign, I discovered users were confused by the initial steps. This insight led to simplifying the flow and adding contextual guidance, which improved activation rates significantly.
How would you collaborate with marketing and lifecycle teams to ensure a cohesive user journey?
I would establish regular syncs to align on messaging and goals, share data on user behavior, and co-create experiments that span acquisition and product touchpoints. For instance, if marketing drives users with a specific value proposition, I'd ensure the first in-product experience reinforces that same promise to reduce drop-off.

The Role

As Staff Product Manager, Activation at Linktree, you will own one of the most important moments in our customer journey: helping new users get set up, understand Linktree’s value, and reach their first meaningful outcome as quickly as possible.
Linktree serves a massive global audience of creators, entrepreneurs, businesses, artists, publishers, and brands. Your work will shape how millions of new users move from sign-up to setup, from setup to sharing, and from sharing to seeing real audience engagement, growth, and monetization value.
This is a senior, high-impact product leadership role for someone who thinks in funnels, learns through experimentation, and can turn complex behavioral data into simple, high-converting product experiences. You will partner closely with Engineering, Design, Data, Lifecycle, Marketing, Revenue, and executive leadership to define what activation means at Linktree and build the systems that make it happen at scale.

What You Will Own

  • Own Linktree’s activation strategy across the early customer journey, from sign-up and account creation through setup, first publish, first share, first audience engagement, and repeat usage.
  • Define the activation model for Linktree, including the key milestones, aha moments, leading indicators, and segment-specific paths that predict long-term retention and monetization.
  • Build and continuously improve onboarding, setup, templates, recommendations, empty states, nudges, lifecycle touchpoints, and in-product guidance that help users reach value faster.
  • Develop a high-velocity experimentation roadmap focused on improving setup completion, time to value, early engagement, D7/D30 retention, and downstream conversion.
  • Lead deep funnel analysis to identify where users drop off, why they get stuck, and which interventions will create the highest impact.
  • Partner with Data to ensure the activation funnel is well-instrumented, measurable, and understood across the company.
  • Translate qualitative insight and behavioral data into sharp product hypotheses, clear priorities, and testable product bets.
  • Work cross-functionally with Marketing, Lifecycle, Revenue, and Brand to ensure the journey from acquisition message to in-product experience feels cohesive and intentional.
  • Communicate strategy, tradeoffs, experiment results, and business impact clearly to senior leadership and executive audiences.
  • Raise the bar for growth product craft at Linktree by bringing strong experimentation discipline, funnel thinking, and customer empathy into the product organization.

What We Are Looking For

  • 8+ years of product management experience, with significant experience in growth, activation, onboarding, product-led growth, lifecycle, or funnel optimization.
  • Proven experience owning a large-scale consumer, prosumer, marketplace, creator, SaaS, or self-serve product funnel with meaningful user volume.
  • A track record of improving activation, onboarding completion, retention, conversion, or time to value through product-led experimentation.
  • Strong analytical depth: you are fluent in funnel analysis, cohort analysis, segmentation, experimentation design, and metric definition.
  • Hands-on experience with product analytics and experimentation tools such as Amplitude, Mixpanel, Looker, Mode, Optimizely, Statsig, or similar.
  • Excellent executive communication skills, including the ability to present complex data, crisp narratives, and strategic recommendations to senior leaders.
  • Strong product judgment: you know when to optimize, when to rethink the journey, and when a small product change can unlock a much larger behavior shift.
  • Experience partnering deeply with Design and Engineering to ship polished, scalable, user-centered product experiences.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity, creating clarity across teams, and influencing without direct authority.
  • A strong customer instinct and curiosity about how creators, businesses, and brands use digital tools to grow their presence, audience, and income.

How You Work

  • You are deeply data-driven, but not data-blind. You use numbers to find the problem, user research to understand it, and experimentation to learn what works.
  • You love funnels. You naturally break journeys into stages, identify the conversion points that matter, and build a clear point of view on which moments deserve the team’s attention.
  • You are a strategic communicator. You can zoom into experiment design with a data scientist, unblock scope with engineers, sharpen a flow with design, and then walk an executive team through the business case with confidence.
  • You move quickly, but with discipline. You know how to balance speed, craft, and signal quality so the team is not just shipping more experiments, but learning faster and making better decisions.
  • You care about helping users succeed. At Linktree, activation is not just getting someone through a checklist. It is helping them create, share, grow, and see why Linktree belongs at the center of their digital universe.
Linktree is committed to providing a fair and competitive compensation package including cash, equity, and benefits. The base salary offered for this role is targeted at $215,000-$230,000 for roles based in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Final offers depend on multiple factors including location, experience, expertise, and role scope, and may vary from the range listed.
P.S. If you don’t tick every box in this listing, please don’t rule yourself out. We take pride in inclusion and hiring incredible human beings with great potential over ticking boxes – so if this role resonates with you, hit that apply button!
