Business Development Customer Relationship Management Defense Industry Naval Systems Japan Market Security Clearance Strategic Planning International Business Government Contracting Leadership

I am writing to express my interest in the Naval Power Japan Customer Account Director position. With over 15 years of experience in aerospace and defense, including extensive work with Japanese defense agencies, I am confident in my ability to drive business growth and strengthen relationships in the region.

My background includes closing multi-million dollar contracts and leading cross-functional teams to deliver integrated naval solutions. I possess a deep understanding of Japan's defense procurement processes and have a proven track record of achieving ambitious booking targets.

I am eager to bring my expertise in customer intimacy and strategic planning to Raytheon. Thank you for considering my application.

Describe your experience working with Japanese defense agencies and how you have built successful customer relationships.
I have spent over 5 years engaging with JMod, ATLA, and JMSDF, attending industry days and building trust through consistent delivery. For example, I led a team that secured a $200M contract by aligning our capabilities with their maritime security needs.
How would you approach identifying new business opportunities within the Japanese market for Naval Power?
I would leverage my network to understand evolving threats and budget priorities, then map our portfolio to gaps. I'd collaborate with internal experts to propose tailored solutions and use Japan's Acquisition & Cross-Servicing Agreement framework.
Can you give an example of a complex capture you led and the strategies used to achieve success?
Once, I led a capture for a radar upgrade in Japan. We formed a joint venture with a local trading company to meet offset requirements, and I coordinated with engineering to adapt the system to JMSDF specs. It closed on time and under budget.
How do you manage relationships with both US government officials and Japanese counterparts simultaneously?
I maintain transparent communication, ensuring alignment on strategic goals. I schedule regular check-ins with US Embassy staff and Japanese liaison officers, and I always seek win-win outcomes that respect both countries' security interests.
This role requires frequent travel and high autonomy. How do you stay effective while managing multiple priorities remotely?
I prioritize tasks by impact and maintain a disciplined schedule. I use CRM tools to track customer interactions and set clear objectives. My remote team and I have weekly syncs, and I ensure stakeholders are updated promptly.
