Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to express my strong interest in the Director of Regulatory Compliance position at Pinterest. With over a decade of experience leading compliance programs for global tech platforms, I have developed deep expertise in navigating complex regulatory landscapes such as the EU Digital Services Act and UK Online Safety Act. My background includes building scalable governance frameworks, driving cross-functional collaboration, and leveraging AI to enhance compliance efficiency.

At my current role as Head of Regulatory Compliance at a major social media company, I successfully led the implementation of a compliance program that passed multiple regulatory audits with zero findings. I also pioneered the use of machine learning to automate risk assessments, reducing manual effort by 40%. I am excited about the opportunity to bring this innovative mindset to Pinterest and help shape a culture of accountability and integrity.

Pinterest’s mission to inspire creativity resonates with me, and I am eager to contribute to a team that values strategic thinking and operational excellence. I look forward to discussing how my skills can support Pinterest’s compliance readiness and growth.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Can you describe your experience implementing compliance programs for global platform regulations like the DSA or OSA?
I have led the design and rollout of compliance programs for both the DSA and OSA, including building control libraries, conducting risk assessments, and coordinating with cross-functional teams. For example, at my previous company, I oversaw the development of a transparency reporting system that met DSA requirements, which involved collaborating with engineering, data science, and legal teams to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
How do you approach integrating AI into compliance processes to improve efficiency?
I believe AI can significantly enhance compliance by automating repetitive tasks like monitoring control effectiveness and flagging anomalies. I have implemented machine learning models to predict compliance risks based on historical data, allowing my team to focus on high-impact areas. The key is to ensure the AI tools are transparent, auditable, and aligned with regulatory expectations.
Describe a time you led a cross-functional initiative to address a regulatory compliance gap. What was your approach?
In one instance, we identified a gap in our content moderation compliance under the OSA. I assembled a task force with members from Legal, Trust & Safety, and Product teams. We mapped the requirements, defined new controls, and implemented a monitoring system within three months. Regular check-ins and clear ownership ensured everyone stayed aligned. The initiative closed the gap and passed subsequent regulatory review.
How do you stay current with evolving global regulations and ensure your compliance program adapts accordingly?
I subscribe to regulatory updates from key bodies, attend industry conferences, and maintain a network of peer compliance leaders. At my current role, I established a regulatory intelligence function that tracks changes and assesses their impact on our operations. We then prioritize updates to our controls and training based on risk and business needs.
What strategies do you use to promote a culture of compliance and accountability across an organization?
I believe in fostering a 'speak-up' culture where employees feel comfortable raising concerns. I implement engaging training programs tailored to different teams, and I ensure that compliance metrics are part of performance reviews. Additionally, I regularly communicate leadership’s commitment through town halls and newsletters, recognizing teams that demonstrate strong compliance practices.
