Dear Hiring Manager,
I am excited to apply for the Technical Sales Specialist, Proteomics Workflow and Beads position at Thermo Fisher Scientific. With a Master's degree in Biochemistry and over six years of technical sales experience in the life sciences industry, I have consistently exceeded revenue targets while helping customers integrate complex proteomics solutions. My deep understanding of laboratory workflows and ability to communicate technical concepts clearly have been key to building lasting client relationships. I am drawn to Thermo Fisher's mission and would welcome the opportunity to contribute to your team's growth in this strategic portfolio.
Sample interview questions
In my previous role, I specialized in selling mass spectrometry consumables and workflow solutions. I leveraged my understanding of sample preparation and bead-based enrichment to demonstrate how our products could reduce variability and improve throughput. By providing technical consultations and custom demos, I was able to show clear ROI to customers, which helped me exceed my quota by 15% each year.
I would start by segmenting accounts based on revenue potential and strategic value, using CRM data to identify high-growth opportunities. I would schedule regular visits to key accounts, group meetings by geographic region to minimize travel time, and use virtual meetings for routine follow-ups. This ensures I maintain strong relationships while also prospecting new accounts.
A customer was hesitant to switch to our bead-based workflow because they believed it would require too much protocol re-optimization. I organized a side-by-side comparison with their current method using their own samples, and our beads demonstrated equivalent or better reproducibility with shorter processing time. I also brought in our applications support team to assist with implementation, which eased their concerns and led to a long-term contract.
I regularly share market feedback and customer needs with marketing to shape campaigns and technical content. During the sales cycle, I coordinate with technical support for pre-sales demos and post-sale troubleshooting. For example, I set up joint webinars with technical application scientists to educate customers on new proteomics workflows, which generated a strong pipeline.
I would attend academic conferences and seminars to understand emerging proteomics trends and identify labs with unmet needs. I would also build relationships with core facility directors and principal investigators, offering educational workshops on best practices. By establishing the company as a thought leader and providing tailored solutions, I can create a steady stream of new opportunities.
