Cover letter sample

Dear Hiring Team,

I am excited to apply for the Condition Monitoring Application Engineer role at AssetWatch. My background in vibration analysis, industrial rotating equipment, and translating field data into practical maintenance recommendations would enable me to support customer trials and solution design effectively.

I am comfortable partnering with sales teams and plant personnel to uncover reliability challenges, evaluate machinery health, and communicate actionable findings clearly. I would welcome the opportunity to help AssetWatch expand its predictive-maintenance impact while contributing in a customer-focused, remote-first environment.

Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to discussing how my technical and client-facing experience can support AssetWatch's growth.

Sample interview questions
How would you evaluate vibration data and turn it into a maintenance recommendation?

I would begin by confirming operating conditions, machine configuration, sensor placement, and baseline data quality. I would analyze vibration spectra, time waveforms, trends, and temperature data for fault signatures, validate the finding against plant observations, and recommend a prioritized corrective action with clear urgency and rationale.

How do you discover a customer's pain points during a technical sales conversation?

I would use discovery questions to understand the customer's critical assets, failure history, production constraints, current monitoring approach, and desired outcomes. I would then connect the technical capabilities of the monitoring solution to measurable reliability and uptime benefits, while being transparent about assumptions and next steps.

How would you communicate a complex condition-monitoring finding to a nontechnical stakeholder?

I would explain the severity, likely failure mode, business impact, and recommended action in plain language before sharing technical evidence. I would tailor the level of detail to the audience, use concise visuals or trend data where useful, and confirm the customer understands the priority and decision required.

What would you do to improve the quality and conversion rate of customer trials?

I would define trial success criteria upfront, including asset-list quality, monitoring-point coverage, stakeholder engagement, and the value expected from findings. I would track outcomes from asset review calls and trial conversion data, identify recurring gaps, and recommend process improvements to improve trial-to-subscription performance.

How would you manage a role requiring up to 50% travel while maintaining strong collaboration with a remote team?

I would plan travel around the highest-value customer activities, prepare site-specific objectives in advance, and document findings and follow-ups promptly after each visit. Between trips, I would maintain structured communication with sales, customers, and product teams so that travel does not slow decisions or project progress.
