Cover letter sample

Dear Hiring Team,

I am excited to apply for the Senior Manager, Sales Engineering - Majors, Mid-Atlantic role at Zscaler. My background leading customer-facing sales engineering teams, developing technical talent, and aligning solution strategy with enterprise revenue goals would enable me to build impact across the Central region.

I bring strong expertise in cybersecurity, networking, SaaS platforms, and value-based technical selling, with a hands-on approach to discovery, qualification, and proof-of-concept execution. I am comfortable operating in matrixed GTM organizations and partnering closely with sales, product, engineering, and channel stakeholders to solve complex customer challenges.

I would welcome the opportunity to help Zscaler scale a high-performing sales engineering organization and advance its Zero Trust and AI-security mission.

Sincerely,
Candidate

Sample interview questions
How would you recruit, coach, and retain a high-performing sales engineering team?

I start by defining clear performance expectations across technical depth, sales execution, customer outcomes, and collaboration. I use regular coaching, deal reviews, skills assessments, and individualized development plans to help each engineer improve while maintaining a high-accountability, high-trust team culture.

How do you lead the technical strategy for a complex enterprise opportunity?

I partner with account leadership to establish the customer’s business problem, technical requirements, decision criteria, stakeholders, and mutual success plan. I then ensure the technical strategy, demonstrations, architecture discussions, and proof of concept are tied to measurable business value rather than product features alone.

What is your approach to scaling and governing proof-of-concept processes?

I qualify proofs of concept rigorously before launching them by confirming a sponsor, defined use cases, success criteria, timeline, resources, and a path to commercial decision. During execution, I use regular checkpoints and executive alignment to manage risk, demonstrate value, and prevent open-ended evaluations.

How do you communicate the value of Zero Trust and SaaS security solutions to both technical and executive stakeholders?

I translate security and network capabilities into outcomes such as lower cyber risk, simplified operations, improved user experience, regulatory alignment, and faster business transformation. I tailor the message to each audience, using technical evidence for practitioners and financial or strategic impact for executives.

How do you operate effectively in a matrixed GTM organization when priorities conflict?

I create alignment through shared account plans, explicit decision rights, recurring operating cadences, and transparent communication around priorities and tradeoffs. When conflicts arise, I return the group to customer impact, revenue objectives, technical feasibility, and data-driven decisions.
