Dear Hiring Team,
I am excited to apply for the Regional Customer Marketing Manager role at Smartsheet. My background in B2B SaaS customer marketing has prepared me to develop customer advocacy programs, create compelling customer stories, and partner closely with Sales and Customer Success to drive retention and expansion outcomes.
I bring a commercially focused approach to regional marketing, using customer events, references, executive engagement, and lifecycle programs to generate measurable pipeline influence and deepen customer relationships. I am especially energized by the opportunity to help make Smartsheet’s AI narrative tangible through authentic North American customer voices.
I would welcome the opportunity to contribute strong cross-functional leadership, storytelling, and data-driven program management to Smartsheet’s Customer Marketing team.
Sincerely,
Applicant
Sample interview questions
I would start by aligning with Sales and Customer Success on ideal advocate profiles, strategic accounts, renewal milestones, and customers demonstrating strong adoption or business outcomes. I would create a structured nomination and qualification process in Salesforce, document permissions and engagement preferences, and establish regular reviews to keep the pipeline current. I would also provide clear value to advocates through visibility, peer networking, executive access, and opportunities to shape the product direction.
I would define commercial goals before program design, such as activating executive champions, creating expansion opportunities, recruiting references, or progressing target accounts. I would track attendance and engagement against account data, capture follow-up actions for Sales and Customer Success, and measure influenced pipeline, opportunity progression, advocacy commitments, and reference creation after the event. Post-event reporting would distinguish meaningful business impact from satisfaction metrics alone.
I would first identify a clear customer challenge, the actions they took with Smartsheet, and the measurable outcome they achieved. Then I would shape that material into an audience-relevant story with a simple narrative arc, concise proof points, and an authentic customer voice rather than overly scripted messaging. I would provide preparation sessions, presentation guidance, rehearsal time, and clear expectations so the speaker feels confident and supported.
I would begin with the central program’s objectives, brand guardrails, target audience, and success metrics, then gather regional input from Field Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, and customers. I would adapt channels, event formats, customer examples, timing, and messaging to North American market needs while retaining the core narrative and measurement framework. Regular communication with the central team would ensure learnings and regional assets strengthen the broader global program.
I would use a balanced set of advocacy, engagement, and commercial KPIs. These would include referenceable customers recruited, advocate activation rate, customer story production, speaker placements, event attendance, reference utilization, influenced pipeline, opportunity progression, expansion contribution, renewal support, and program ROI. I would review results by segment, account tier, and program type to identify where investment is producing the strongest business value.
For over 20 years, Smartsheet has empowered teams to manage work seamlessly and scale solutions smarter. Now, in our most ambitious chapter yet, we are uniting human teams with AI agents. By orchestrating the work agents do best, automating manual tasks and uncovering insights at scale, we create the space for people to focus on what truly matters: judgment, creativity, and big thinking. That is magic at work, and it’s what we show up for every day.
Smartsheet is a tech company with a human story to tell — and our customers are the ones who tell it best. We are looking for a Regional Customer Marketing Manager to be the dedicated North American point of contact and in-region engine of our Customer Marketing function, turning NA customer voice into expansion opportunities, retention, and proof.
As the primary touchpoint for all North American customer marketing activity, you’ll partner daily with NA Field Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success, while working hand-in-glove with the central Customer Marketing team to land global programs — North American user groups, customer stories, speaker placements, and regional Customer Advisory Boards — tailored to the unique dynamics of the NA market with measurable commercial impact.
The through-line for FY27 is our AI narrative: every story, every regional event, and every executive touchpoint should reinforce why Smartsheet is the right partner for our North American customers’ AI journeys. Your job is to make that narrative tangible through regional customer voice and proof points. You’ll report into the central Customer Marketing team and can be based remotely anywhere in North America or from one of our NA offices.
You Will:
- Act as the primary point of contact for all regional customer marketing activity, partnering daily with Field Marketing, Sales leadership, and Customer Success Managers to surface opportunities and prioritize programs.
- Localize and deliver central Customer Marketing program in-region, including in-person User Groups, the customer stories program, speaker requests, and Regional Advisory Boards.
- Build and maintain a regional pipeline of reference-able customers and advocates in partnership with Sales and CS — feeding the central reference program and ensuring Sales and ABM can pull stories and references in real time.
- Identify, recruit, and prepare regional customer speakers for ENGAGE, regional summits, and third-party events.
- Plug into Customer Lifecycle & Retention program (onboarding journeys, feature adoption, renewal touch points, reactivation) to ensure scaled lifecycle plays land in-region alongside the high-touch work of CS.
- Tie every regional event and program to commercial outcomes — expansion pipeline, exec champion activation, reference creation — rather than satisfaction scores alone. Report regularly on pipeline influenced, references created, and advocate participation.
- Collaborate with Community, ABM, and Customer Advocacy peers to ensure regional activity reinforces a single, consistent customer narrative.
You Have:
- 3–5 years in B2B SaaS marketing, with hands-on experience in customer marketing, customer advocacy, or a closely related discipline.
- A proven track record running customer programs in-region — user groups, advisory boards, customer story production, or executive engagement — with measurable commercial impact.
- A self-starter who can drive projects from concept through completion with minimal guidance, balancing multiple programs in a fast-paced environment.
- A strong cross-functional operator who builds trust quickly with Sales leaders, CSMs, and senior stakeholders, and is comfortable in a matrix global team.
- Excellent storytelling instincts — you can spot a strong customer narrative, coach a customer through telling it, and shape it for the right audience (sales deck, keynote, analyst, press).
- Data-literate and curious: comfortable defining KPIs, working in Salesforce and marketing automation tools, and reporting on pipeline influence, reference utilization, and program ROI.
- Experience working alongside ABM, Community, or Lifecycle Marketing functions is a plus.
- Willingness to travel in-region for customer events, summits, and RABs (typically 20–30%).
