Dear Hiring Team,
I am excited to apply for the Principal Product Designer, Presence role at Reddit. My product-design background combines systems thinking, interaction design, and cross-functional leadership to turn complex platform challenges into coherent, trusted user experiences.
I am particularly drawn to the opportunity to define how identity, profiles, discovery, community context, and participation work together across Reddit. I have experience aligning product, engineering, research, and leadership partners around durable frameworks while connecting long-term vision to measurable near-term releases.
- Platform and ecosystem UX architecture
- Executive storytelling and influence
- Accessible, scalable interaction patterns
I would welcome the opportunity to help Reddit create a more connected and distinctly Reddit presence experience for users, communities, creators, and businesses.
Sample interview questions
I would begin by mapping current user journeys, ownership boundaries, technical constraints, and inconsistent patterns across the ecosystem. From that evidence, I would define a north-star experience model, a set of shared principles, and a sequenced roadmap of foundational patterns and near-term improvements that teams can adopt incrementally.
I build alignment through clear problem framing, evidence from research and data, concrete prototypes, and transparent trade-off discussions. I tailor communication to each audience, make risks and decision points explicit, and create shared ownership by connecting recommendations to company objectives and team-level outcomes.
I evaluate the user mental model, task frequency, accessibility implications, consistency with existing patterns, technical cost, and future extensibility. Reuse is preferred when it supports comprehension and scale, while new patterns are justified only when they solve a meaningful unmet need or remove systemic friction.
I would use them to rapidly prototype end-to-end states, simulate complex system behaviors, explore edge cases, and make strategic conversations more concrete. These tools should accelerate validation and communication, while final decisions remain grounded in user research, accessibility, technical feasibility, and product goals.
I would define a balanced scorecard including adoption and completion rates for key identity or profile tasks, discovery and participation outcomes, trust and safety signals, accessibility quality, consistency of pattern adoption across teams, and qualitative feedback from users and internal product partners.

Presence shapes how people, creators, businesses, and communities show up, are understood, discover each other, and participate across Reddit. As Reddit continues to evolve across profiles, identity, business tools, discovery, and new consumer experiences, we need a Principal Product Designer to make these surfaces feel connected, navigable, trustworthy, and distinctly Reddit.
This is a systems-level design role, not ownership of a single feature or vertical. You’ll define how identity, profiles, business presence, community context, discovery, navigation, and participation work together across Reddit, creating the models and patterns that help Reddit evolve as one ecosystem while enabling individual teams to move quickly.
You’ll work across Design, Product, Engineering, Research, Data Science, Content Design, and executive leadership to turn ambiguity into clear product direction, durable frameworks, and executable paths forward.
What You’ll Do
- Define the UX architecture for Presence across profiles, identity, business tools, community context, discovery, and new product surfaces.
- Translate broad company priorities into multi-year experience strategy, decision frameworks, and sequenced paths from today’s product to the future state.
- Create shared models, interaction patterns, navigation approaches, and experience principles that multiple teams can build against.
- Resolve overlaps, gaps, and conflicting approaches across teams before they become fragmented user experiences or duplicated investments.
- Influence product direction and planning with senior Product, Engineering, Research, Data Science, Content Design, and Design leaders.
- Lead UX framing for high-stakes ecosystem decisions, presenting recommendations, alternatives, risks, and success signals to senior executive audiences.
- Use AI-assisted design and coding tools to prototype future-state concepts, test system behavior, expose edge cases, and accelerate strategic decisions.
- Raise the quality bar for interaction design, information architecture, accessibility, trust, and systems coherence while mentoring senior designers.
What You’ll Bring
- 10-12+ years of product design experience, including leadership of platform-scale or ecosystem-level initiatives across multiple product areas in consumer technology.
- A portfolio showing Principal-level scope: original product vision, systems architecture, exceptional interaction design, executive influence, end-to-end coherence, and measurable impact beyond a single team or launch.
- Experience defining foundational product architecture, shared interaction models, or platform strategies adopted by multiple teams.
- Strong ability to influence product priorities and executive decisions without direct authority.
- A track record of connecting long-term product vision to executable near-term launches, experiments, and organizational commitments.
- Expert interaction design and information architecture skills, with sound judgment about when to reuse, evolve, or create new patterns.
- Fluency with AI-assisted design and coding workflows, especially using prototypes to validate system behavior and improve strategic decisions.
- Strong understanding of research, data, experimentation, accessibility, and technical constraints, plus exceptional communication and facilitation skills.
This is a role for a designer who can make complex ecosystems feel simple, coherent, and worth coming back to.
