Cover letter sample
Dear ClickUp Hiring Team,
I am excited to apply for the SEO Director role and bring deep experience building scalable organic-growth strategies across technical SEO, content, analytics, and emerging AI-search channels. I am particularly drawn to ClickUp's opportunity to shape discovery across Google, LLMs, review platforms, and community ecosystems through disciplined experimentation and AI-enabled workflows.
I would bring a hands-on, data-driven leadership approach: aligning web engineering and content roadmaps to measurable acquisition outcomes, developing clear attribution frameworks, and building high-leverage teams that move quickly. My background in technical SEO, information architecture, international growth, and cross-functional stakeholder management would enable me to translate fast-moving search changes into durable business impact.
I would welcome the opportunity to help ClickUp set the standard for organic visibility in an LLM-first landscape.
Sample interview questions
I would define a unified funnel that separates presence, engagement, and business impact. It would combine rankings and non-brand visibility with AI citations, LLM referral traffic, assisted conversions, qualified sign-ups, and pipeline where available. I would establish baselines, document attribution limitations, create channel-level dashboards, and use controlled tests to validate which interventions create incremental outcomes.
I would score initiatives by expected business impact, confidence, effort, technical risk, and dependency sequencing. High-priority work would typically include crawlability, rendering, indexation, information architecture, structured data, page experience, and template-level quality issues that affect large sections of the site. I would convert findings into clear requirements and acceptance criteria, then report outcomes in both technical and acquisition terms.
I would begin with entity, topic, and query research to identify where users ask for workflow, productivity, and project-management recommendations. From there, I would strengthen authoritative product and use-case content, structured information, credible third-party mentions, reviews, and community participation while tracking citations and referral patterns. I would treat LLM optimization as an experiment program, not a one-time checklist, because retrieval and answer generation vary by platform and change quickly.
I would use AI for repeatable, governed workflows such as content audits, internal-link suggestions, SERP and citation classification, QA checks, opportunity clustering, and first-pass reporting. Each workflow needs defined inputs, quality thresholds, human review points, and measurement of time saved or output quality. The goal is to automate operational work while reserving expert judgment for strategy, prioritization, and high-impact editorial decisions.
I would establish a portfolio taxonomy and recurring quality review based on demand, performance, uniqueness, conversion contribution, freshness, and cannibalization risk. Pages would be prioritized for expansion, consolidation, refresh, localization, or pruning according to measurable criteria rather than volume alone. I would align content governance with product positioning and technical architecture so that scale does not dilute trust, usability, or crawl efficiency.

Overview
We are looking for a strategic, hands-on leader to own ClickUp’s organic growth engine at the forefront of the AI Search era. You will bring deep SEO fundamentals, but this is not a traditional Director role. The landscape has shifted, and this position is responsible for defining ClickUp’s acquisition strategy across modern discovery systems, building the team and workflows to execute it, and setting the standard for how brands show up across AI-powered surfaces. Our goal is to lead in AI visibility, backed by real investment, executive buy-in, and the autonomy to move fast.
You will own how ClickUp is discovered across Google, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and emerging answer engines. You’ll translate market shifts into focused strategy, build AI-powered systems that multiply your team’s output, and influence cross-functional partners across Engineering, Content, Product Marketing, and Analytics to rally behind organic growth. This role is equal parts strategist, operator, and pioneer.
The Role
Own ClickUp’s organic acquisition strategy across Google Search, LLMs, communities, review platforms, and emerging discovery surfaces, evolving it for an agentic and LLM-first landscape.
Build AI-powered workflows and agents to automate everything from content creation to complex analytical assessments, championing experimentation and AI-first ways of working.
Build and manage strategic external partnerships (AI platforms, review ecosystems, third-party publishers) and guide internal teams across Reddit, G2, YouTube, etc. to maximize ClickUp’s organic presence.
Partner closely with Engineering, Performance Marketing, Content, Product Marketing, and Analytics as a deeply cross-functional leader who also executes.
Lead ClickUp’s technical SEO oversight, including site architecture, structured data, and international SEO.
Develop measurement frameworks and use data to prioritize initiatives, identify growth opportunities, and communicate performance to executive leadership.
Act as the organic growth product owner for web engineering priorities: scoping technical projects, defining requirements, and owning the SEO roadmap alongside the web platform team
Own oversight of the content portfolio: defining scalable strategies across editorial, programmatic, localization, and product-led experiences while managing pruning, consolidation, and quality governance at scale.
Qualifications
8+ years in SEO or organic growth at scale, including 3+ years in a leadership role (B2B SaaS preferred)
Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to separate signal from noise, question assumptions, connect findings to business impact, and communicate recommendations with confidence and candor.
Deep understanding of AI-powered search experiences and LLMs, with hands-on experience measuring AI visibility, citations, and LLM referral traffic using tools like Peec, AirOps, Profound, or Scrunch.
Demonstrated experience building AI-powered workflows to automate processes, improve decision-making, and increase team leverage.
Experience managing direct reports and building small, high-output teams that punch above their weight.
Track record of building custom measurement and attribution frameworks, including dashboards and reporting (Hex, Looker Studio), particularly in emerging channels (like AEO) where standardized methodology doesn’t exist yet.
Deep expertise in technical SEO, information architecture, content strategy, and on-site optimization.
Low ego, high candor, and a bias toward action. You’d rather ship an imperfect experiment than wait for perfect data.
Desirable
Background in or exposure to CRO, particularly where organic acquisition and on-site conversion intersect.
Experience leading international SEO and localization strategies.
Deep technical understanding of how LLMs work end-to-end: from query interpretation to retrieval to output generation, and how that knowledge informs optimization strategy
Experience architecting multi-property domain strategies to expand organic reach beyond a core brand site.
Experience building and deploying AI agents, working with MCPs, and an obsession with automating as much of the workflow as possible to multiply output.
