Sample interview questions
I would start with the client's business goals, target audiences, existing content performance, technical SEO baseline, and competitor landscape. I would then map keyword and topic opportunities to search intent and funnel stages, prioritize initiatives by expected impact and effort, and define clear KPIs such as non-branded organic traffic, rankings, engagement, and conversions. Finally, I would create an editorial roadmap and use recurring reporting to refine priorities.
I review performance by page, topic, query, audience, and conversion behavior to identify both wins and gaps. For example, a page with strong impressions but low click-through rate may need a more relevant title and meta description, while a page with traffic but weak engagement may need better intent alignment, structure, or calls to action. I document hypotheses, prioritize tests, and report outcomes so the next iteration is based on evidence.
I establish shared priorities, scope, owners, dependencies, and deadlines for each account, typically using a project-management system and a weekly planning cadence. I communicate risks early, distinguish urgent work from high-impact strategic work, and keep clients informed when priorities change. This approach helps maintain quality while ensuring deliverables support the most important KPIs.
AI-powered search increases the importance of genuinely useful, well-structured, authoritative content that directly answers audience questions. I would focus on clear topical coverage, credible sourcing, strong information architecture, and content formats that are easy to understand and cite. I would also monitor changes in search visibility and referral behavior, then adjust content priorities without losing focus on core audience and business needs.
I would be direct and constructive, beginning with the agreed KPIs and the data behind the result. I would explain likely causes, distinguish confirmed findings from hypotheses, and present a prioritized recovery plan with owners, timing, and expected indicators of progress. The discussion would remain focused on learnings and next actions rather than assigning blame.
