Sample interview questions
How would you build an AEO strategy for Harness across AI answer engines and traditional search?

I would begin with an audit of priority product entities, use cases, audience questions, existing content, technical accessibility, and current brand citations. I would then establish an entity-led content architecture, structured-data standards, authoritative supporting content, and an off-site citation plan. Measurement would combine organic traffic and rankings with share of voice, cited-source visibility, branded mentions, zero-click exposure, and conversion quality.

Describe how you would prioritize the Harness.com website roadmap when product launches and SEO improvements compete for resources.

I would use a transparent scoring model based on business impact, strategic alignment, audience reach, conversion opportunity, effort, risk, and dependencies. Product-launch requirements would be planned with marketing and product teams early, while foundational SEO and performance work would be treated as durable platform investments. I would publish roadmap trade-offs, define owners and milestones, and revisit priorities using performance data.

What technical SEO issues would you assess first on a high-traffic B2B SaaS website?

I would assess crawlability and indexation, site architecture, canonicalization, redirects, page speed and Core Web Vitals, JavaScript rendering, internal linking, duplicate or thin pages, XML sitemaps, schema markup, and international-site implementation where applicable. I would connect each issue to affected business pages and potential pipeline impact. The output would be a prioritized remediation plan shared with engineering and content stakeholders.

How would you improve conversion performance on product and solution pages?

I would first establish baseline performance by audience, traffic source, device, and page intent, then identify friction through analytics, session behavior, user research, and form data. I would test clearer value propositions, proof points, information hierarchy, calls to action, navigation paths, and page speed improvements. Each experiment would have a defined hypothesis, success metric, guardrail metric, and documented learning for future iterations.

How do you manage an external SEO agency while retaining strategic ownership?

I set a clear operating model that defines business goals, deliverables, quality standards, reporting cadence, approval paths, and measurable outcomes. The agency can provide specialized execution and research, but internal strategy, prioritization, brand positioning, and final decisions remain owned by the web lead. I review recommendations critically, track implementation and outcomes, and hold regular performance reviews tied to agreed KPIs.

Position Summary

Harness is looking for a highly strategic Web Strategy & AEO/SEO Lead to own the global website experience and organic discoverability strategy for Harness.com. This role sits at the intersection of web strategy, SEO/AEO, content architecture, and growth and is responsible for ensuring Harness is discoverable across traditional search engines and AI-driven discovery surfaces (LLMs, answer engines, zero-click experiences).

You will act as the single-threaded owner of website strategy and offsite strategy: setting direction, defining standards, prioritizing initiatives, and orchestrating execution across internal partners and external vendors.

About the role

AEO & Discoverability

  • Own Harness’s organic discoverability strategy across traditional search engines and AI-driven answer engines (e.g. Google AIO, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude).
  • Define and evolve an AEO / AEO strategy focused on entity authority, structured content, use-case clarity, and off-site citations optimized for LLM citation and summarization.
  • Partner with Product Marketing and Content to ensure product positioning, narratives, and use cases are reflected in search- and AI-readable site architecture.
  • Lead keyword strategy, content gap analysis, and competitive audits with emphasis on intent, topics, and entities over keyword volume.
  • Establish standards for technical SEO, structured data, internal linking, and content templates that scale across modules and solutions.
  • Own performance measurement across classic SEO metrics and indicators of AI discoverability (citations, visibility, zero-click exposure).
  • Manage and direct external SEO / AEO agencies or vendors, setting strategy, reviewing output, and holding them accountable to performance outcomes.

Web Strategy & Ownership

  • Own the end-to-end web strategy for Harness.com, aligning site architecture, content, and UX with business goals (pipeline, product adoption, brand).
  • Act as the primary owner of the website roadmap, balancing strategic initiatives with ongoing production needs.
  • Continuously evolve the website to reflect product launches, positioning updates, and market trends.

Conversion & Performance Optimization

  • Optimize key conversion paths across the site (product pages, solutions, resources, demos).
  • Run experiments (A/B tests, messaging iterations, layout changes) to improve engagement and conversion rates.
  • Partner with demand gen on landing pages and campaign experiences.

About you

  • 6+ years of experience in SEO in a B2B SaaS or tech environment.
  • Experience owning web and organic growth strategy through influence, prioritization, and vendor management, not just hands-on execution.
  • Proven experience owning and operating a high-traffic, high-impact website.
  • Strong hands-on SEO expertise (technical, on-page, and content)
  • Strong understanding of B2B buyer journeys and how websites support demand generation.
  • A proactive operator who sees problems, proposes solutions, and drives them to completion.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in DevOps, cloud, or developer-focused products
  • Familiarity with marketing automation, personalization, or experimentation tools
  • Experience partnering with global teams and supporting international sites
  • Basic HTML/CSS knowledge or comfort working closely with developers

Work Location

  • Remote within the U.S or Hybrid from one of our U.S offices.

What you will have at Harness

  • Competitive salary
  • Comprehensive healthcare benefits
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
  • Flexible work schedule
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Flexible Time Off and Parental Leave
  • Monthly, quarterly, and annual social and team building events
  • Monthly internet reimbursement
