Dear Hiring Team,
I am excited to apply for the Director, Government Partnership Development role at Ginkgo Bioworks. My background in federal business development, complex capture strategy, and biotechnology-focused partnerships aligns strongly with Ginkgo’s mission to make biology easier to engineer.
I would bring a customer-centered approach to developing opportunities across HHS, DoW, and related agencies, translating laboratory automation and scientific capabilities into compelling proposals, partnerships, and delivery plans. I am particularly motivated by the opportunity to help advance resilient pharmaceutical supply chains, medical countermeasures, and AI-enabled scientific research through public-private collaboration.
I look forward to contributing strategic account leadership, cross-functional coordination, and trusted government relationships to help expand Ginkgo’s impact.
Sample interview questions
I would explain the customer mission, stakeholders, procurement vehicle, competitive landscape, and capture plan. I would then outline how I coordinated technical, pricing, legal, and executive inputs, managed proposal milestones, and maintained customer alignment through award and post-award transition.
I would begin with discovery around the lab’s throughput constraints, reproducibility needs, workforce limitations, biosafety requirements, and program objectives. I would connect RACs and automation software to measurable outcomes such as faster workflows, improved data quality, scalable capacity, and resilience, then substantiate the value proposition with a phased implementation and mission-relevant use cases.
I monitor agency priorities, budget signals, BAAs, FOAs, RFPs, and award trends while maintaining direct engagement with customers and potential teaming partners. I qualify opportunities based on mission fit, funding pathway, customer access, technical differentiators, competitive position, delivery readiness, and expected probability of win.
I establish a clear capture plan with decision owners, milestones, a compliance matrix, and regular risk reviews. I translate customer needs into actionable requirements, escalate decisions early, and keep teams focused on the highest-impact issues while ensuring the final solution is technically credible, commercially sound, and procurement-compliant.
I would use relationships to understand public mission priorities, capability gaps, and appropriate engagement channels while following all ethics, organizational-conflict, and procurement rules. I would avoid seeking nonpublic competitive information and ensure all interactions are documented, transparent, and aligned with applicable acquisition regulations.
