Sample interview questions
How do you adapt solution-focused counselling for an employee experiencing workplace burnout?

I begin by assessing risk, functional impact, and the employee’s immediate needs. I then identify achievable short-term goals, explore existing strengths and supports, and use practical interventions such as boundary setting, stress-management planning, and structured follow-up while referring for longer-term care when clinically indicated.

How would you ensure compliance with a 24-hour documentation requirement?

I would reserve protected time immediately after each session to complete objective, clinically relevant notes. I use a consistent documentation structure covering presenting concerns, assessment, interventions, risk, plan, and follow-up, then verify completion within the required system and timeline.

What steps would you take if a client disclosed imminent risk of self-harm during a virtual session?

I would remain calm, conduct an immediate risk assessment, confirm the client’s current location and available supports, and follow Lyra’s emergency SLA and escalation procedures. Depending on the assessed risk, I would coordinate emergency services or local crisis support, involve appropriate contacts where permitted, document actions promptly, and ensure clinical handoff or follow-up.

How do you maintain ethical boundaries in an affiliate EAP arrangement?

I clearly explain the EAP scope, confidentiality limits, authorization requirements, and the prohibition on direct billing or soliciting EAP clients. I keep communication and treatment within approved channels, avoid dual relationships, and consult clinical oversight when a boundary or conflict-of-interest concern arises.

How do you build rapport with clients across in-person, video, and telephone counselling?

I establish a warm, structured, and culturally responsive opening while clarifying the purpose and limits of the session. For virtual and telephone care, I pay particular attention to privacy, pacing, verbal attunement, and explicit check-ins to compensate for reduced nonverbal information and maintain engagement.
