About this role.
This is a senior-level SDET role focused on automated regression testing for a distributed observability and audit platform rather than UI-centric QA. The engineer will automate API, telemetry, data-pipeline, infrastructure, performance, and failure-injection validation across multiple environments and product versions. Core technical expectations include AWS, Terraform/IaC, OpenTelemetry, scripting, load testing, defect triage, and Agile quality practices. The role requires close collaboration with engineering and test architecture teams while independently producing reproducible regression evidence and quality sign-off inputs.

Sample interview questions
I would define tests around each stage of the flow: ingestion, transformation, storage, querying, alerting, and trace correlation. The suite would generate controlled logs, metrics, and traces with unique identifiers, then assert completeness, field accuracy, ordering where applicable, latency thresholds, and end-to-end trace linkage. I would run these tests in isolated environments and retain artifacts such as payloads, query results, and timestamps for diagnosis.
I would test clean-state deployment, repeatability, idempotency, and expected resource configuration. Automated checks would run Terraform validation and plan analysis, deploy to an ephemeral environment, verify cloud resources and application health, rerun the deployment to confirm no unintended drift, and execute teardown validation. I would also include negative scenarios for missing variables, incorrect permissions, and dependency failures.
I first make the failure reproducible by capturing test inputs, environment state, logs, traces, network responses, and build versions. I then rerun the scenario independently and compare the observed behavior with formal acceptance criteria. A defect is supported when the system consistently violates expected behavior, while a flaky test is addressed by removing timing assumptions, strengthening synchronization, isolating test data, or correcting environment dependencies.
I would establish workload models based on expected log, metric, trace, query, and alert volumes, then define measurable targets for throughput, latency, error rates, and resource consumption. I would execute baseline, sustained-load, spike, and saturation tests while monitoring service health and telemetry integrity. For resilience, I would introduce controlled failures such as service restarts, unavailable dependencies, delayed ingestion, or degraded network conditions and verify recovery, data behavior, and alerting.
I map automated tests to acceptance criteria, risks, and release requirements, then report clear pass/fail status by environment and build version. Evidence should include execution summaries, defect references, relevant logs or screenshots, performance results, and known limitations. I communicate residual risk explicitly so stakeholders can make informed quality and release decisions.

About the Role:
We are looking for experienced SDETs (Software Development Engineers in Test) to build and execute automated regression testing for a complex observability and audit platform operating across multiple enterprise environments.
This is a highly technical, hands-on automation role focused on validating APIs, data and telemetry pipelines, distributed tracing, alerting, audit capabilities, infrastructure deployments, performance, and scalability. This is not a traditional UI-focused QA automation position.
You will develop automated regression suites, validate Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployments, execute load and failure scenarios, investigate defects, and provide regression evidence throughout a sprint-based development lifecycle.
The ideal candidate combines strong test automation and scripting skills with enough knowledge of AWS, Terraform, OpenTelemetry, and distributed systems to effectively validate complex infrastructure and observability capabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, maintain, and execute automated regression test suites.
- Develop automated tests for log and metric ingestion pipelines.
- Validate search and query functionality, accuracy, and latency.
- Test distributed tracing accuracy and end-to-end telemetry flows.
- Validate alert delivery, firing conditions, and routing behavior.
- Develop automated tests for audit trail queries, integrity, and expected system behavior.
- Validate Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployments, including clean-state deployments, reproducibility, and zero-manual-step expectations.
- Execute and help design load and scalability testing against defined performance targets.
- Execute failure-injection scenarios and validate expected platform behavior.
- Run regression testing across multiple versions and environments in parallel.
- Identify, document, triage, and track defects against formal acceptance criteria.
- Verify fixes and execute appropriate regression testing before quality sign-off.
- Collaborate with the Test Architect and engineering teams to continuously improve regression coverage.
- Maintain clear and reproducible automation code and testing documentation.
- Provide regression evidence during sprint reviews and contribute to quality status reporting.
- Work within Agile sprint cycles using formal acceptance criteria and Definition of Done (DoD).
Requirements:
- 4+ years of professional experience as an SDET, Test Automation Engineer, QA Automation Engineer, or similar technical testing role.
- Strong hands-on experience developing and maintaining automated test suites.
- Strong API testing and automation experience.
- Experience with scripting for technical validation and automation.
- Experience with load and/or performance testing.
- Working knowledge of cloud-based environments.
- Experience testing complex backend, infrastructure, data pipeline, or distributed systems.
- Experience working with formal acceptance criteria and Agile development processes.
Must Have:
- 4+ years of professional SDET or test automation experience.
- Strong hands-on test automation skills.
- Strong API testing and API automation experience.
- Experience developing automated regression suites.
- Strong scripting skills for automation, pipeline validation, or log/data validation.
- Experience with load and performance testing tools.
- Experience testing backend, infrastructure-heavy, data-intensive, or distributed systems.
- Working knowledge of AWS environments.
- Working knowledge of Terraform-deployed environments and Infrastructure as Code concepts.
- Working knowledge of OpenTelemetry-based systems.
- Understanding of logs, metrics, telemetry, and distributed tracing concepts.
- Experience validating data or telemetry pipelines.
- Experience testing across multiple environments and/or product versions.
- Experience with defect identification, triage, tracking, and fix verification.
- Experience working with Jira or similar issue-tracking tools.
- Experience working with formal acceptance criteria and Definition of Done (DoD).
Nice to Have:
- Previous experience testing observability platforms.
- Experience validating OpenTelemetry implementations.
- Experience with log and metric ingestion testing.
- Experience validating distributed tracing.
- Experience testing alerting and notification workflows.
- Experience validating audit trail integrity.
- Experience with failure-injection or resilience testing.
- Experience with high-volume data pipeline testing.
- Experience with security-related regression testing.
- Experience validating Infrastructure as Code deployments.
- Experience testing ERP or complex enterprise platforms.
- Experience working across multiple versions of the same enterprise application.
- Experience with CI/CD-integrated automated regression suites.
