Sample interview questions
How do you turn an ambiguous client request into a UX direction the delivery team can build?

I begin by clarifying the business objective, target users, constraints, and success measures through stakeholder conversations and available research. I then make assumptions visible, map priority journeys, and use flows or low-fidelity concepts to resolve key decisions early. The output is a concise, shared direction that identifies scope, risks, and next steps for design and engineering.

Describe how you would improve a complex website’s information architecture.

I would audit the existing content, analytics, search behavior, and user feedback to understand current navigation problems. From there, I would define audience needs, create a content taxonomy, test proposed labels and navigation structures, and validate key pathways with representative users. I would document the recommended architecture and migration considerations so it can be implemented sustainably.

What is your approach to designing within WordPress or another CMS?

I treat the content model and authoring experience as core product requirements rather than implementation details. I collaborate with content strategists and engineers to define reusable blocks, templates, fields, and governance rules that support flexibility without sacrificing consistency. This helps editors create quality pages while preserving the intended UX and design system.

How do you manage competing feedback from client stakeholders?

I separate feedback about business goals, user needs, and personal preference, then bring the conversation back to agreed success criteria. I use workshops, annotated prototypes, and clear decision logs to make tradeoffs understandable. When disagreement remains, I recommend a path based on evidence and identify what can be tested or deferred.

How do you ensure your UX work improves outcomes such as conversion or engagement?

I define measurable user and business outcomes at the start, such as completion rate, navigation success, activation, or conversion. I prioritize the highest-impact journey problems, validate designs through research or usability testing where possible, and partner with analytics and product teams to review post-launch performance. I use those findings to iterate rather than treating delivery as the end of the design process.
