Sample interview questions
Describe a mobile product experience you designed for users working in complex or time-constrained environments.

I would explain the user context, research approach, and constraints such as limited attention, poor connectivity, or one-handed use. I would show how those findings shaped task flows, information hierarchy, error prevention, and validation, then share measurable usability or business outcomes.

How would you design an interface that presents an AI model's confidence while allowing a field user to correct it?

I would make the AI recommendation and its confidence understandable without overwhelming the user, using clear labels and contextual evidence. I would provide fast correction paths, preserve user control, explain material uncertainty when needed, and use corrections as structured feedback that can improve the system.

How do you move from an ambiguous AI capability to a validated product concept?

I start by defining the user problem, decision to be supported, operational risks, and limitations of the model. I collaborate closely with engineering and product to prototype realistic system behavior, test concepts with target users, and iterate on both the interaction model and the underlying product requirements.

What principles guide your design of mobile workflows for construction jobsites?

I prioritize speed, readability, resilience, and safety. That means designing for outdoor conditions, interruptions, variable connectivity, simple data capture, low cognitive load, and clear recovery from mistakes while validating assumptions through direct field observation.

How do you communicate a design vision about AI to executive and nontechnical audiences?

I connect the design narrative to user pain points, strategic outcomes, and concrete scenarios rather than leading with technical details. I use concise storytelling, visual prototypes, key tradeoffs, and success measures so stakeholders can understand both the opportunity and the responsible path to delivery.

About Us:

Homebound is on a mission to make it possible for anyone, anywhere, to build a home using technology. Created by an experienced team of construction, real estate, design, and technology experts, Homebound is transforming the residential construction industry by improving the costly and inefficient process of building a home.

We’ve created an entirely new way to build homes with technology powering every stage from start to finish to provide a seamless experience for our customers. Homeowners across the country can choose where they want to live, select a home plan that’s perfect for them, then personalize and buy it, all online. Homebound has raised $150M in capital from leading venture capitalists like Google, Khosla, Thrive Ventures, and we’re scaling quickly in places like Texas, Colorado and Florida. Come build your future with us.

About the Role:

As Senior Product Designer, you will define how AI feels for the teams building our homes. You’ll shape the experiences that our Superintendents and Direct Construction Operators (DCOs) rely on every day – across our mobile application, advanced AI based video analysis, and new experiences around automated data capture on site.

This is a role for a designer who blends sharp interaction design with strong visual craft. You’ll take novel, sometimes ambiguous AI capabilities – computer vision, multimodal models, agents – and turn them into interfaces that feel clear, trustworthy, and genuinely delightful on a jobsite. You know the emerging patterns for designing with AI (surfacing confidence, handling uncertainty, guiding and correcting the model) and you have a point of view on how to make them feel effortless for users who are not sitting at a desk.

Motion design won’t be your day-to-day focus, but you can reach for it to bring AI experiences to life and make them compelling. Just as importantly, you’re an exceptional communicator: helping craft executive level presentations that carry Homebound’s AI narrative across the entire company, our board, and our investors.

What You’ll Do:

  • Own the end-to-end experience: Design interaction flows and polished, high-craft visuals across all of our field initiatives.

  • Design compelling AI patterns: Turn frontier AI capabilities into interfaces that are clear and trustworthy – handling confidence, uncertainty, and human-in-the-loop correction in delightful ways.

  • Design for the field, not the desk: Craft mobile-first experiences that work for Superintendents and DCOs in real jobsite conditions.

  • Bring experiences to life with motion: Use motion design where it counts to make AI interactions feel intuitive, responsive, and compelling.

  • Partner tightly with your PM and engineers: Work shoulder-to-shoulder with the Field AI PM and Engineering to move from concept to shipped product.

  • Communicate the AI story: Present to executives and teams across the company, using your work to make Homebound’s AI vision tangible and shared.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 5+ years of product design experience, with a portfolio demonstrating strong interaction design and high visual craft.

  • Direct experience designing mobile applications (iOS strongly preferred).

  • Hands-on experience integrating AI/ML patterns into products in delightful, usable ways.

  • Motion design skills you can bring to bear on compelling AI experiences

  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, including direct experience presenting to executive-level audiences.

  • Comfort designing in ambiguity – translating novel, evolving AI capabilities into clear, intuitive experiences.

  • A collaborative, self-starting approach; you partner naturally across product, engineering, and operations.

  • Willingness to travel to Texas to work directly with our field teams.

  • Interest in construction and the built environment is a plus; no prior industry experience required, but an expectation to learn the domain rapidly.

Our Commitment:

We are focused on building a diverse and inclusive workforce. If you’re excited about this role, but do not meet 100% of the qualifications listed above, we encourage you to apply. To apply, please submit an application with your resume on the Career’s page.
