I would begin by validating operational and technical requirements with customer stakeholders, including data sources, network constraints, security requirements, and success metrics. I would then configure and test the solution in a pilot, document the deployment approach, address issues found during validation, and manage a controlled production rollout. After go-live, I would monitor outcomes against the agreed business value and capture reusable lessons for future deployments.
I would first establish the scope and timing of the failure, then check device health, network connectivity, DNS and firewall rules, service status, logs, credentials, and protocol-specific connectivity. I would compare the current configuration with the last known working state and validate the PLC, SCADA, or data-source endpoint independently. Once the root cause is confirmed, I would restore service, verify data quality end to end, and document preventive actions.
I have used scripting to automate repetitive validation and configuration tasks, parse logs, test API responses, transform operational data, and generate deployment reports. For example, a script can verify endpoint reachability and expected data tags before a customer handoff, reducing manual checks and making issues easier to reproduce. I prioritize maintainable scripts with clear inputs, error handling, and documentation so they can be reused by the broader team.
I assess the available compute resources, operating system compatibility, network segmentation, certificate and secret management, data persistence, image versioning, update procedures, and offline or restricted-network constraints. In industrial settings, I also account for reliability, change-control processes, access controls, and the potential production impact of downtime. I validate the deployment in a representative environment and provide an operational runbook before production handover.
I tailor the message to the audience while keeping the facts consistent. For plant and technical teams, I provide architecture details, logs, root cause, corrective actions, and validation evidence; for account stakeholders, I summarize customer impact, risk, timeline, and business outcome. I use concise written updates, clearly state ownership and next steps, and avoid overstating certainty while investigation is still underway.

About the Role
The Application Engineer is a key technical role within the Litmus Customer Success team and is responsible for ensuring successful configuration, deployment, and value realization of Litmus products for customers across EMEA.
The Application Engineer will work with prospective and existing customers during proof-of-concept projects and production implementations, validating requirements, developing best-practice configurations, and delivering technical outcomes that demonstrate measurable business value.
The Application Engineer will also partner closely with Sales Engineers, Account Managers, Product Management, Development, and the Litmus Support Desk to support pre-sales transitions, customer expansion, product feedback, and Level 2 technical support. This role reports to the Director of Technical Delivery.
What You’ll Do
Validate customer requirements for proof-of-concept and production implementations of Litmus products.
Configure Litmus products during proof-of-concepts, customer pilots, and production deployments.
Lead assigned technical implementation activities and ensure contracted technical responsibilities are delivered successfully.
Develop innovative solution approaches that help customers maximize value from Litmus products.
Maintain and contribute to internal solution libraries, deployment best practices, reusable configurations, and technical documentation.
Provide Level 2 technical support to the Litmus Service Desk, including troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and customer issue resolution.
Support Sales Engineers and Account Managers with technical architecture reviews, proposal inputs, RFI/RFP responses, demonstrations, and smooth pre-sales-to-implementation handovers.
Provide field feedback to Product Management and Development on customer requirements, market gaps, bugs, and product enhancement opportunities.
Support webinars, customer meetings, partner enablement, value-added reseller discussions, and customer user group activities as required.
What You’ll Bring
Must Have
Professional experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment, ideally in an Application Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automation, Controls, Industrial IT/OT, or related technical role.
Hands-on experience implementing or supporting software, infrastructure, automation, IIoT, analytics, or shop-floor solutions in a manufacturing environment.
Strong technical understanding of network protocols, system architecture, Linux-based systems, databases, and customer deployment environments.
Experience with product configuration, technical troubleshooting, and customer-facing implementation or technical support activities.
Working knowledge of scripting or coding using Python, JavaScript, or similar languages.
Understanding of containerized and cloud/hybrid infrastructure technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, Azure, AWS, or GCP.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work directly with customers, internal technical teams, sales teams, and partners.
Self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Fluency in German & English

Experience with Litmus products, industrial data platforms, OPC/UA, PLC/SCADA systems, or edge connectivity use cases.
