Sample interview questions
I begin with reflective listening to understand the member’s barriers, values, and readiness for change. Rather than prescribing a solution, I use open-ended questions to help them identify a small action that feels realistic and personally meaningful, then agree on how we will review progress.
I use structured onboarding notes, goal tracking, member segmentation, and scheduled touchpoints to ensure every member receives consistent attention. I prioritize responses based on clinical or behavioral urgency while preserving individualized context, preferences, and progress history in every interaction.
I would first look for patterns in the data alongside the member’s stated goals, routines, recovery, and constraints. I would translate those patterns into a small number of practical behavior targets, explain the rationale in accessible language, and adjust the plan based on adherence, feedback, and outcomes.
I can help the member understand how clinician-guided information may relate to daily habits, but I do not diagnose, prescribe, or provide medical advice. I clearly identify when a concern requires referral and coordinate with or direct the member to the appropriate licensed clinical professional.
It means each member feels known, respected, and supported even between live sessions. I provide clear, warm, timely communication; remember relevant personal context; celebrate consistent behaviors; and make adjustments that fit the member’s real life rather than offering generic advice.
About Us:
Future is building a personalized guidance system for lifelong health. We help people understand what to do next for their body, goals, and stage of life — then support them in turning those decisions into sustained behavior change. By combining AI, human expertise, personal health data, and accountability, Future helps members improve performance today while building the resilience, capacity, and healthspan they need for decades to come.
Who We Are
Future pairs each member with an expert coach who gets to know them, their goals, and their data, then builds a healthier life around all of it. We started in fitness, and we’re now going further: a coaching-led health experience that brings together movement, nutrition, sleep and recovery, and leverages real clinical data to build precise, custom member protocols. Our offering is continuing to evolve and we’re looking for coaches who want to help shape it.
About the Role
Role Type: 1099 (independent contractor)
As a Health Coach, you’ll own a caseload of members and guide each of them from their first day through their progress milestones. This is a partner role, not a prescriber role: you draw out what a member actually wants, meet them where they are, and help them build habits that last across nutrition, movement, sleep, and stress. You’ll coach through a mix of virtual face-to-face sessions and day-to-day messaging, and you’ll use each member’s data to make your guidance specific and personal. The members we serve expect high-touch, polished care, with the coach at the center of their experience.
What you’ll do
- Own your members’ experience end to end. Guide a caseload of members from onboarding through their 90-day milestone and beyond, and keep every one of them feeling individually known.
- Coach live and asynchronously. Run virtual kickoff and check-in sessions, and support members between sessions over messaging that stays warm, timely, and clear.
- Build personalized, data-informed plans. With the support of AI tooling, translate each member’s goals and data into a plan across fitness, nutrition, sleep, and recovery, and adjust it as their life and results change.
- Coach the person, not just the plan. Use motivational interviewing and reflective listening to help members find their own reasons for change and choose their own next step, rather than handing them a prescription.
- Make the data useful. Under the guidance of Future’s Clinical Team, contextualize body composition scans, bloodwork and GLP-1 considerations within your scope, and turn them into everyday actions a member can take.
- Make progress visible. Track progress against goals your members helped set, and celebrate the behavior and consistency wins, not just the number on a scan.
- Help build. Bring what you learn from members back to the team, and help us shape a program that’s ever growing and evolving.
Who you are
- Empathetic. You lead with care and meet people where they are, whether it’s a member having a hard week or a teammate under pressure.
- Independent, and collaborative. You can run your caseload at a high level without hand-holding, and you still genuinely enjoy working alongside your teammates.
- An active part of the community. Even though we’re a virtual company, you show up: you join calls, contribute to projects, and share honest feedback that makes the team better.
- Proactive. You chase down answers, follow up, and take initiative instead of waiting to be told.
- Tech-savvy. You pick up new tools quickly and are comfortable working across apps, data, and platforms all day.
What you’ll need
Required (non-negotiable)
- A health coaching certification from a recognized program covering behavior-change theory, motivational interviewing, reflective listening, and foundational nutrition, such as an NBHWC-approved program, ACE Health Coach, Precision Nutrition L1, NASM Behavior Change Specialist, or an equivalent. Full NBC-HWC board certification isn’t required, but it’s a strong preference.
- An associate’s degree or higher (or an equivalent, experience-based path to your coaching certification).
- 2+ years of client-facing coaching or training experience. Enough that you can run a member session on day one, without a ramp.
- Proven high-volume caseload management. You’ve personally carried a large book of clients at once and kept each of them feeling individually known.
- Comfort working with a diverse member population. You adapt your style to meet members of different ages, backgrounds, cultures, abilities, and health starting points, and every one of them feels respected and understood.
- Strong written communication. Much of your coaching happens over messaging, so you’re warm, clear, and personable on the page while staying professional.
- Strong verbal communication and presence. You also coach face-to-face over video, and you bring confidence, thoughtfulness and professionalism into every session.
- Comfortable synthesizing health data. You keep up with current health trends and have a track record of coaching clients across nutrition apps and wearable devices, bringing their data together into a single comprehensive plan.
Strong plus (not required)
- A personal-training or strength credential (CSCS; NASM, ACE, or ACSM CPT; or similar).
- A nutrition-coaching certification such as Precision Nutrition.
- An advanced degree in exercise science, physiology, kinesiology, or a related field.
- Clinical collaboration in functional or integrative medicine. You’ve worked alongside or under registered dietitians, nurse practitioners, or physicians.
- Experience with luxury clientele. You’ve served high-end members in concierge medicine, a premium gym, or a private club, and you carry that polish into every interaction.
- A distinct coaching specialty such as performance, postpartum, pelvic-floor, or eating-disorder-informed coaching, that adds range to our team.
- Startup experience, or time spent in a fast-changing, still-being-built environment.
