Sample interview questions
How would you translate an annual Customer Success revenue target into an operating plan?

I would begin with the target and decompose it into retention, expansion, activation, and pipeline assumptions. I would model required customer coverage, rep capacity, conversion rates, and productivity by segment, identify gaps, and establish owners, milestones, dashboards, and a regular operating cadence.

Describe how you would improve pursuit or lead prioritization for a Customer Success team.

I would assess the current routing rules, response times, conversion outcomes, customer value, and rep capacity. I would then create a transparent prioritization model using factors such as lifecycle stage, propensity, urgency, account value, and engagement, test it against a control group, and scale it only after validating performance gains.

Which metrics would you use to diagnose a declining Customer Success pipeline?

I would inspect activity volume, contact and connect rates, meetings set, meetings held, stage conversion, follow-up speed, pipeline aging, recycle rates, and rep-level capacity. Segmenting these metrics by cohort, channel, territory, and customer profile helps distinguish a demand issue from a process, routing, or execution issue.

Give an example of a workflow you would automate in Salesforce.

A high-impact example is automating task creation and escalation for customers who meet defined activation or expansion signals. The workflow would assign an owner, set a response SLA, surface the account in a dashboard, and trigger reminders or reassignment when action is overdue.

How do you gain alignment when Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success disagree on funnel ownership?

I establish shared definitions, a common funnel view, and measurable handoff SLAs before discussing solutions. I use data to clarify where performance breaks down, facilitate agreement on accountable owners and experiments, and review results through a recurring cross-functional operating rhythm.
