- Guide research development: Help students develop feasible, high-quality research questions aligned with their academic interests and future medical career goals.
- Provide research feedback: Review research plans, data interpretation, and written research drafts, offering structured feedback to strengthen the quality of students’ work.
- Support research skills and standards: Help students understand research methodologies, academic research standards, and discipline-specific expectations.
- Guide academic research deliverables: Support students working toward outcomes such as academic papers, research posters, or journal submissions, depending on program scope.
- Monitor project progress: Track student progress against established milestones and timelines to maintain momentum throughout the research process.

- Strong background in research design, data analysis, and academic writing.
- Experience mentoring students or trainees.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong planning, organization, and project management skills.

Sample interview questions
I would first clarify the student's interests, available data or resources, timeline, and intended deliverable. I would then use a structured framework such as population, exposure or intervention, comparison, and outcome to create a focused, answerable question with an achievable scope.
I review the proposal for alignment among the question, literature gap, methodology, outcomes, and feasibility. I provide prioritized written feedback, explain the rationale for key revisions, and agree on concrete next steps so the student can improve without becoming overwhelmed.
I introduce standards early through guidance on literature appraisal, transparent methods, data handling, citation practices, and limitations. For projects involving human subjects or sensitive data, I clearly explain the need for appropriate ethical oversight and keep the work within permissible educational boundaries.
I would discuss the barriers promptly and without judgment, reassess the scope and timeline, and divide the next deliverable into smaller tasks. I would document an updated plan and use regular check-ins to restore momentum while maintaining realistic quality expectations.
I begin with the student's current understanding and use plain language, practical examples, and short iterative exercises. I connect each method to the research question, verify comprehension through discussion, and gradually introduce technical terminology as the student gains confidence.
