Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to express my strong interest in the Field CTO – Analytics & AI (North Europe) position at EDB. With over a decade of hands-on experience in PostgreSQL and data platforms, I have successfully led technical sales and advisory for enterprise AI and analytics solutions. My expertise includes designing GenAI architectures with vector search and RAG, running proofs of concept, and advising CxOs on data strategy.

I am particularly drawn to EDB's leadership in the PostgreSQL community and its focus on empowering enterprises with open-source AI. In my previous role at a leading data platform company, I drove multimillion-dollar deals and developed playbooks that scaled the technical sales motion. I am confident that my blend of deep technical skills, market knowledge of North Europe, and executive presence would enable me to excel as your Field CTO.

I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how I can contribute to EDB's growth in Analytics and AI. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Can you describe a time when you led a complex proof of concept for an AI workload on PostgreSQL? What were the key technical challenges and how did you overcome them?
I led a PoC for a large financial services client wanting to implement a GenAI-powered document retrieval system using PostgreSQL with pgvector. The key challenge was achieving sub-second latency for hybrid search queries on millions of documents. We optimized by using indexing strategies and caching, and also tuned the embedding model for size-speed trade-off. We delivered a working prototype that exceeded their performance KPIs, which led to a multi-year deal.
How do you approach advising a CxO on adopting AI and analytics in their organization? What questions do you ask?
I start by understanding their business objectives, current data maturity, and pain points. I ask about their existing data infrastructure, regulatory constraints, and appetite for cloud vs. on-prem. I then map GenAI use cases to specific ROI, such as improving customer experience or operational efficiency. I also discuss risks like data privacy and model governance, and recommend a phased approach starting with high-impact, low-risk use cases.
Describe your experience with building playbooks and enabling sales teams. Can you give an example of how your playbook directly impacted deal success?
At my previous company, I created a playbook for AI use cases in the retail sector, including typical objections, architectural patterns, and competitive positioning. This playbook was used by the EMEA sales team to win a major retailer. The playbook helped sales reps quickly qualify opportunities and position our solution against competitors, resulting in a 30% reduction in sales cycle time.
How do you stay current with the rapidly evolving AI landscape? Share a recent trend you think will impact enterprise data platforms.
I regularly follow research papers, attend industry conferences, and participate in open-source communities like PgConf. A recent trend I find crucial is agentic AI, where autonomous agents coordinate to complete complex tasks. This will require data platforms to support real-time event streams and vector databases. PostgreSQL's flexibility makes it a great fit for powering agent workflows with stored procedures and pgai.
The role covers North Europe. How do you adapt your approach for different countries like Sweden, Germany, or the UK?
I tailor my engagement to each market's buying behaviors and regulatory environment. For example, Germany values data sovereignty and on-prem solutions, so I emphasize EDB's security and compliance. In the UK and Nordics, cloud adoption is higher, so I highlight Kubernetes deployment and multicloud capabilities. Language and cultural nuances also matter—I ensure my examples and references align with local business practices.

Technical skills

  • 8+ years of deep hands-on expertise with Postgres and data platforms analytical and OLAP workloads, data warehousing, and operational data systems.
  • Real, current experience designing AI and GenAI solutions on data platforms: vector search, embeddings, retrieval and RAG, and emerging agentic patterns. You can build these, not just talk about them.
  • Proven ability to lead POCs, benchmarks, sizing, and complex migrations end-to-end, and to design reference architectures customers trust.

Market knowledge

  • A current, well-formed view of the analytics and AI data landscape where the market is heading, what enterprises are actually buying, and how EDB differentiates. Awareness of the broader competitive landscape, without needing to lead with it.
  • Fluency operating across North European markets, including the buying patterns, regulatory context, and industry dynamics of the region.

Experience working with CxO level

  • A strong track record in pre-sales, solutions-architect, or field-CTO roles on enterprise data and AI deals built over many years in customer-facing technical leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging at the CxO and board level you can earn the trust of a CTO or CDO, advise on strategy, and hold the room as the senior technical voice on a strategic account.
  • Comfort being both the deepest technical hands on the deal and the executive in the conversation, and the discipline to document and share what you learn so the wider field benefits.
  • Willingness to travel as deals demand.
