Cover letter sample

Dear Hiring Team,

I am excited to apply for the Graphic Designer role at Instructure, bringing experience translating complex information into clear, engaging visual systems across digital and print channels.

My background with Adobe Creative Cloud, Figma, branded campaign assets, and accessibility-conscious design would enable me to support a consistent and effective learning ecosystem.

I thrive in collaborative, high-volume environments, communicate the rationale behind design decisions clearly, and use feedback to improve creative outcomes.

I would welcome the opportunity to contribute thoughtful, scalable design work to Instructure’s marketing team.

Sample interview questions
How do you turn complex educational or technical content into a clear visual story?

I begin by identifying the audience, the core message, and the action the asset should support. I then establish a clear hierarchy, remove nonessential content, and use layout, typography, color, and visual cues to make the information easy to scan and understand.

How would you maintain brand consistency while designing for many channels and asset types?

I use brand guidelines as a decision-making framework rather than a limitation. For each new format, I preserve the core visual principles—such as typography, color, imagery, and tone—while developing scalable components that fit the channel and user need.

What is your approach to applying WCAG accessibility standards in visual design?

I build accessibility into the design process from the start by checking contrast, avoiding color-only meaning, maintaining readable type sizes, and considering how content will work with assistive technologies. I also validate final digital assets against relevant WCAG requirements before handoff.

How do you manage a high-volume design request queue while maintaining quality?

I triage requests by business impact, deadline, audience reach, and dependencies, then document priorities and timelines in the project-management system. I communicate early when scope or timing needs adjustment and use templates and asset libraries to deliver repeatable work efficiently.

How do you handle conflicting stakeholder feedback on a design?

I explain feedback and design decisions in terms of the brief, audience, brand principles, and intended outcome rather than personal preference. When feedback conflicts, I ask clarifying questions, propose options where useful, and align stakeholders on the solution that best meets the objective.
