Cover letter sample
Dear Hiring Team,
I am excited to apply for the Senior Consulting Engineer role at ClickHouse. My background in customer-facing technical delivery, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and database operations aligns well with supporting strategic customers from architecture through production. I bring a consultative, hands-on approach to troubleshooting performance, migration, reliability, and integration challenges while communicating clearly with both engineering teams and business stakeholders.
I would welcome the opportunity to help ClickHouse customers build high-performing analytics platforms and to contribute product feedback, technical content, and mentorship across the global Support Services organization.
Sincerely,
Candidate
Sample interview questions
I would begin by defining the workload, data volume, concurrency, latency targets, retention needs, and availability requirements. I would then evaluate schema design, partitioning, ordering keys, sharding, replication, ingestion patterns, and resource sizing, validating the design through representative benchmarks and documenting operational runbooks.
I would first establish business impact, scope, and recent changes, then collect query profiles, system metrics, logs, and cluster health data. I would isolate whether the cause is query design, schema choices, data skew, resource saturation, network behavior, or a platform defect; communicate progress frequently; and provide both an immediate mitigation and a durable corrective action.
I would assess source schemas, data formats, volume, historical backfill requirements, SLAs, and downstream consumers before selecting a phased migration plan. The plan would include data modeling, ingestion validation, reconciliation checks, performance testing, rollback procedures, operational training, and a controlled production cutover.
I translate technical findings into impact, options, risks, recommended actions, and clear ownership. For executive stakeholders, I focus on outcomes, timeline, and risk; for engineers, I provide evidence, architecture details, commands, and reproducible next steps, with written follow-up to maintain alignment.
I prioritize by customer impact, production severity, contractual obligations, project milestones, and time sensitivity. I set expectations early, use documented triage criteria, delegate or escalate where appropriate, and protect time for proactive project work while ensuring urgent support incidents receive timely attention.
